Title: Construction of Safe and Economic Apartment Buildings in Seismic Areas

    Authors:
    Tomičić, Ivan (49993)
    Journal: Civilna zaštita
    Number: 2
    ISSN: 1330-0148
    Volume: 2
    Year: 1993
    Pages: from 107 to 111
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: The article deals with possible bearing structures for apartmentbuildings in seismic areas, designed to endure gravitation andinertial. In high-rise buildings, the use of monolithic ceilingsis advisable for horizontal reinforcement, while reiforcedconcrete walls and shells encasing elevators and staircases couldbe used for vertical reinforcement. For lower building, monolithic or prefabricated ceilings, girded by horizontalserclage are also recommended as horizontal reinforcement: wallsreinforced by horizontal serclage provide vertical reinforcement.Vertical serclage is not necessary for two-floor or lowerbuildings. Vertical reinforcement by reinforced concrete framesis not advised because of high flexibility. Whenever possible, itis advisable to use frames filled with bricks or blocks, in orderto achieve greater bearing power rigidity, while reducingdeformability.
