Summary: Improvement and management of the water regime in soil
require a lot of research and knovledge. The life processes of the plant
are dependet on the conditions prevailing in the plant root zone, and
theefore it is necessary to adjust the water regime management practice to
the processes taking place in system soil-plant-atmosphere. To achieve this
goal the system approach was applied. The hydrological cycle in
amelioration was divided into sub-systems, wich were modelled.
The topography of the research area is rather uniform, with minor relief
changes. The soils in the area are hydromorphic, of heavy texture, and with
low water and air permeability. Investigations of the water regime were
done on the pilot plots and by simulations on the model. The research
provided the scientific basis for water regime management. The values of
additional transpiration of crops were determined, both for the case of
water conservation and for the case of irrigation by infiltration. The
hydrological effects of water regime management were then translated into
assitional revenues of agricultural production. The mean efficiency of
irrigation is comparatively low; howevwr, irrigation by infiltration is
financially feasible.
