Summary: This paper presents the programme for the static analysis of the plate and plane structures strengthened by girders. The numerical model is formulated by 2D and 1D combined isoparametric finite elements. The geometry of the structure may be arbitrarily chosen. The addition of 1D elements does not increase the number of degrees of freedom of the global model.

Summary: This paper presents an application of well known analytical solutions for removing certain restrictions referred to the local effect simulation in the finite element method. The procedure is illustrated by the problem of plate bending which are subjected to concentrated load. The analytical solution is applied in the immediate neighbourhood of the concentrated load as a "particular" part of the total solution, while the "homogenous" part of the solution is obtained on the whole region by means of finite element technique. The given examples present high accuracy of the considered approach achieved by coarse finite element meshes. This technique can be also applied to problems of another type, using St. Venant's principle of the equivalent applied forces outside of the loaded region.

Summary: This paper presents the new isoparametric shell finite element and its features in the numerical analysis of complex engineering structures. Each element node has six degrees of freedom, i.e. three translations and three rotations. This shell finite element is derive from the 20-node three dimensional element and it is based on the degenerated continuum concept. The introduction of the finite rotational stiffness of the shell around the normal into its middle surface, which usually absents in the shell analysis, is performed in the same way as the inclusion of the rotational degree of freedom into a membrane. In this paper, the drilling degree of freedom in the shell element node is evaluated from equilibrium equations of the Cosserat continuum by abandoning the usual assumption that the stress tensor is symmetric. The procedure is based on the variational formulation which implies independent displacement and rotation fields. The new isoparametric shell finite element with six degrees of freedom per node enables a combination with different types of finite elements because it ensures compatibility of displacements and rotations at their connections. It is also suitable for modelling folded shell structures. This work deals with a combination of this shell element wiyh the standard beam finite element, so that an efficient tool for the numerical analysis of structures composed of shells, plates, walls, beams and columns obtained. The capabilities of the proposed shell element are given through various numerical and practical examples.

Summary: The existing approach and software based on Finite ElementMethod is often not sufficient for the numerical simulation ofthe behavior of built structures, cracks modelling andsoil-structure interaction. A special type of finite "interface"element is developed for the proper modelling of joints, cracks, glued conjunctions and various types of contacts. The interfaceelements are used as materially and geometrically nonlinear onlyat particular portions, while the remaining part is treated onthe linear, and only exceptionally nonlinear, analysis level.

Summary: A traditional analysis of an engineering structure is mostly based on the analysis of individual structural elements. For example, horizontal structures (slabs, shells, girders, etc.) are separately analysed and then vertical structures (columns, walls, etc.) subjected to load due to the horizontal structures are independently analysed. However, the use of this analysis system could result, in some cases, in significant loss of solution accuracy. Namely, using this system interaction effects between particular structural elements are neglected. An integrated structural analysis of a whole structure which takes into account all structural elements including their interaction could only provide more accurate and reliable results. We have developed our software SHELL6 and its applicability for the integrated structural analysis is presented in the paper. Both the shell and beam elements have six degrees of freedom ( three for displacements and three for rotations), so that the compatibility is ensured at a common node of adjacent elements. A practical example is solved in order to illustrate the SHELL6 capability. One industrial hall structure is discretised by 162 shell elements describing shall roof and 50 beam elements describing columns and girders. The structure subjected to wind and crane jack load is analysed as a whole structure. Typical results (i.e. deformations, internal forces and principal stresses) obtained with the SHELL6 code are presented in a graphical form.

Summary: Inclusion of an additional rotational degree of freedom to the plane stress analysis is presented. According to this formulation, an isoparametric C0 finite shell element with six degrees of freedom per node is derived. The element exhibits excellent accuracy characteristics. In combination with finite beam element, very efficient numerical model for analysis of complex structures consisting of shells, beams and columns is developed.

Summary: Numerical analysis of structures consisting of shells and beams implies specific problems of connecting various finite elements into a compatible entire. This work presents the algorithm based upon new isoparametric finite shell elements with six degrees of freedom per node and standard finite beam elements. The main problem related to the satisfying the fully compatibility of displacements and rotations in the common nodes, has been solved by formulating of the rotational degree of freedom around the normal to the mid-surface of the shell. Specially, the joint of shell and column which transfers torsional moment to the shell mid-surface is considered. The compare with analytical solution confirms the accuracy and reliability of employed numerical process.
