Summary: Somes investigation has been provided to evaluate the
durability of different paint systems on steel structures during the
service life in various corrosive environments. Estimation of the
possibility of corrosion protection on structures during the erection and
service life has been presented. A new method (CPM) to evaluate protective
coatings has been used. In accordance with this assessment an optimum
procedure has been developed to prolong the durability of corrosion
protection on structures. The method has been incorporated in an expert
system, which can select the adequate paint system for the corrosive
environment where steel structures can be built.
