Summary: The new folk architecture in Croatia today is the
architecture of rural farm and service buildings. Two tendencies are at
work:in contrast to the pretencious "newly composed" architecture of
dwelling houses a unimposing and well moderated architecture of service
house is in process of appearing. The traditiona architecture reached its
high range equaly in dwelling houses andin service houses. This
developement was stopped under the influence of the professional building
practice and the legal regulations that followed this practice.

Summary: In the newly-composed regionalistic architecture
pictoral-narrative and illustrative parts are always linked to a motif
taken from the folklore architecture. The problems of composition, kind of
designing and artistic values are suppressedby the sticking to the
motif.Behind such attempts, to make environments which should, by means of
illustration, compensate something unsatisfied in the dispsositions and
spiritual states, stands a strong emotional charge. This emotional charge
asks for satisfaction through the naive attempt to change the situation
through an idillicaly designed environment. From the history of art we can
se that every motif can be used for the creation of a masterpeace of art.
The entire problem of the newly-composd regionalistic architecture, is that
people who try to concealtheir weknesses in design resort to illustrations.
This is thereason why the newly- composed regionalistic architecture is
nota wery appropriate tool for the satisfying and solvin problemsand
aspirations which did not arose from architecture.

Summary: The crisis in newer arhitecture is expressed in mass
production of superficially designed buildings and in the small number of
arhitectural works of art. This has reached the prportions of a kind of
social disease with a group of disorders, clearly visible symptoms,
processes and, to a certain extent, causes.
Just as mental derangement changes the behavior, functionig, capabilities
and wayof live an individual, so this social disease has unsetled the
functioning of social mechanisms and disrupted links between processes.
Social behaviour in arhitectural creativity can be compared with the
clinical pictures described in the psychiatry of the individual. The
similarity is significant, and the terminology is suprisingly
appropriatefor descriptions of social behaviour although the governing
processes on the social and individual level differ. This is not the same
disease transferred form an individual to social level. The causes of the
disorder on the two levels are essentially different and mainly still
rather unknown, and the path from individual inception to social disorder
are long and stratified. The problems of pathology in buliding, which
include an environment polluted with unsuitable and places of maximum
pollution, the development of methods of prevention, cure etc., must be
interpreted in the context of social psychiatry. As a mass phenomenon,
these problems should be treated as part of mental hygiene and it is from
this aspect that influence of arhitecture should begin. Different atitudes
various social groups have towards arhitecture result in conflicting
actvities: on one hand arhitecture is considered an art, and on the other
hand the practice exisits of cheap projects, mass construction and profit,
to the disadvantage and detriement of arhitecture. Each of these atitudes
results in different and separate behaviour, so that society sems greatly
to reflact disorders known in individual disease. The desire to realize
what we called good arhitecture exists, but the clear plan is lost on the
way to the goal, becoming futile as procedures are accommodated to satisfy
partial and momentary interests and gains. There is no hierarchy of logical
system of demands and procedures. Disorders, aslevels of the same problem,
swep from individual situations and cases to the community as a whole,
influencing and genrating each another.
The results of this pater is the appearance of incohernet, contradictory
and unsystematic themes with many symbols and images linkes in various
random manners, without reason, ned or sense. This gives birth to
environmental fragments turned to thier own isolated reality. In today's
substantial production towns and landscapes are clutered with examples of
badly designed arhitecture, badly solved problems and mistakes in
composition. This reality exists and is constantly and latently at work as
complex system of scenery that people are only occasionally aware of.

Summary: Pollution caused by budding of inadequacy desigened
arhitecture is related to ecoogy, development planing, eco-tourism, the
culture of living, as well as tourism and culture in general. This way of
environmental pollution represents a problem which has been rapidly
increasingand which affects large areas. Although the problems have been
presented for years, they are still neglected. Variuos forms of degenerated
modern arhitecture as well as various forms of so called new - composed
arhitecture are dominant.
Psychologicicaly, in contemporary construction there is specific way of
thinking which puts quyntity before quality and is even, in many aspects,
unable to think about qualities, experience or produce valuable solutions.

Summary: The main reason for writing this paper is the brutal war
started by Serbian-Montenegrin coalition on the territory of what once was
Yugoslavia and the inability of the West, especially europe, to stop it.
Having allowed the Serbs to continue the aggresion against the Croats,
Muslims and other non-Serbian nations with no end in sight, Western
politicians made a great mistake the consequences of wich are to be felt in
Europe for generations. If we take a look at the cultural and historical
circumstances in Europe, we shall always find examples that depart from
moral and ethical rules. We can always talk about oppression of the freedom
of think and speech. According to the Indian system of philosophy, our
planet is entering a period of spiritual disintegration and collapse. The
collapse of the whole of European continent takes places on the
battlefields of the Balkans, entering step by step the sphere of our
spiritual being.

Summary: The research team from the zagreb Faculty of Philosophy's
Ethnological Department was in August and September 1993 in Nepal. It was
the first field research of that kind in more then three hundered-year-old
history of the University of Zagreb, conducted on the subcontinent of
India. The team has spent a month in Nepalese Mustang District in the
Himalayas, which is at the altitude of more then 3000 meters. The main aim
of the research was to explore ethnologically and to document
audio-visually the traditional, originally Tibetan, way of life and
Buddhist religion of people living in that part of the Himalayas. This
paper is a result of both the author's own field research and the available
bibliography.
Nepal is a Himalayan kingdom, situated between India on the South and Tibet
on the North. Unlike its neighbours, it has never been colonized. Nepal is
a very old country that has not gone though many cultural changes,
primarily because it was closed for foreign influences.

Title: Program of environmental protection from pollution by
building construction
- Authors:
- MORSAN, BORIS
Summary: Crisis in modern arhitecture is exposed in mass-production
of superficially designed buildings and through rarity of works of art.
When we are speaking about problems of ecology, we have to start speaking
about the pollution of enironment by buliding construction. Developed
strategies and procedures fir efficient control of this phenomenon are
missing. Mass-construction is psreading with a great speed over the waste
regions and it can completely change appearance of landscapes and regions
in a period of few years. Fighting back of described phenomenon and trend,
treatment of mistakes and enviroment is not possible without the evidences
of errors and disturbances and wothout plans of improvement. The proposed
program is meant to make records and classifications of cases and problems
that in the environment originate from disproportionaly and poorly designed
bulidings. Every case is elaborated with one or more critical analisys and
prposals about the possibilities for improvement. Those proposals can be
sent for further analysis, design development, invitations for tenders
(arhitectural competitions), etc. It can serve as a basis for plans of
improvement. Supporter of the program is Association of Croatian Arhitects
(UHA). Elaborated cases are listed in the databases of registered cases
after the summary of all proposed and written critical analysis is done
with the permission of three to five programleaders. Cases that are listed
in the databases of registered cases are published in the program report.
Work on the program is planned for the period of two years for a small
region, with the possibility of continuation and expanding. Collected data,
an overview of the problem and conclusions is possible to use 1) in urban
planning, 2) in work of local province, county and city goverments, 3) for
arhitectual and planning commissions inprovinces and cities, 4) as one of
the indicators about the work of arhitects in The Chamber of Arhitects, 5)
in The Ministry for the environmental protection for policy making, 6) for
protection of arhitectural heritage and regions under protection, as a
suplement program, 7) for informing of professional and wider public and
development of critical thinking about environment and arhitecture.
Protection of the environment from pollution by building construction has
to find equal footing among other ways of environmental protection. This
program works on databases that would enable a survey of problems and their
sources. It can serve as incentive for actions that would begin to improve
and stop this phenomenon. Program serves for stimulating awareness of
seriousness about the problem and for impeding the development of adequate
protection ordinances. It is basis for future programs, plans and funds for
the improvements of defects. Using this program and its databases about the
pollution by buliding construction we are directly initiating critical
opinions and expounding of arhitectural and building problems. Proposed
programs and models of operations could, if shown useful, after testing on
smaller region, be applied on whole country or other environments that have
similar problems and possilbilities of application.

Title: Sociopathology and Psychopathology of Building
Language: hrvatski
Summary: The crisis in architecture of the modern times is
represented ina mass production of superficialy designed buildings and
rareworks of art. Nowadays we can talk about a specific illness ofsociety
with a certain accumulation od derangements, clearly seensymptoms,
processes and causes. As a psychic illness changes thebehaviour of an
individual, his functions, capabilities and life,so this illness of the
society represents its specific forms inderanged functioning of mechanisms
and disturbed correlation ofprocesses of designing. The behaviour of the
society can becompared to clinical pictures described in individual
psychology. The resemblance is notable and the terms surprisingly
agree, although the processes on social and individual level are ofdifferent
kind.

Summary: Ethnologic materials on Budhist and Bon religions are
compiled in the Mustang District in Nepal. Abut 16 hours of video
materialsand 2000 dias have been shot. Data on the way of life,
customs, festivals, religion, rituals etc. have been recorded as well. Apart
of these materials is not previously known from any source of literature or

The spiritual aspect of culture still has strong feature s of animistic
shamanism in which the environment and natural states, especialy moutains
and waters - brooks, rivers and lakes, represent spirits who people
cooperate with or protect themselfs from. It influenced specific
architectural customs (dog-skullburrying in the house foundation, using
sheep-skull with thekwit threads as a trap, in front of the entrance, etc.)
and interventions in the environment (praying water mills, sacredstones
