Summary: Wool as a natural protein fibre is a valuable raw material for the textile industry. Besides, it is the only natural source of an important pharmaceutical material - lanolin. In Croatia about 1000 metric tons of greasy wool yearly left behind unused because of an uneven quality. In order to revive interest in this neglected source of raw material a research project was started two years ago, with aim to define physical, chemical and dyeing properties of domestic wools.

    Held: from 06/24/06 to 06/26/93
Summary: Around 750 tonnes of greasy wool of uneven quality was left unused in Croatia in 1990, mainlly due to inadequate knowledge of sorting and preparation for sale and also to wide variety of breeds present. Having in mind these, not so small, quantities of wool, and also enviromental considerations, it is clear that the post-war livestock reconstruction effort in Croatia should beaimed at narrowing the variety of the breeds present in Croatia, with the purpose to get, besides meat and milk, wool even and higher quality, such as could be processed in industrial mills.
