Summary: Development investigations in both leather and footwear
processing industry in Croatia provide for minor dependence on import
product for leather manufacturing as well as compatible production of
shoes in era of total communication in the world.As the results the
broadening of knowledge about specific sinthetised products depend on
complex collagen structure were achieved.In realisation of the hydrofobic
effect of leather and effect of whitteness the resistance to water and
influence of light was attained.Processes of leather manufacturing were
optimised to reach for reaching the demanded leather properties and to
define the efficiency of the new or improved auxiliary products.The aim of
investigations for defining the new or improved products for
hydrofobing,fatting and white leather manufacturing,along with recomended
optimal procedure,was realised.In the results the theoreticalally
background was given about hidrofobness,light stability and mechanical
phenomena as a result of leather microstructure change during
manufacturing.By extending the investigations on computer aided
manufacturing in the range of product design (CAD),manufacturing (CAM) and
plans for integrated manufactoring (CIM) the intention was to improve the
technology development in Croatian shue and leather processing indutry.

Research goals: The goals of the development and applicative project
which have to contribute the technological progress in the field of leather
processing are the realisation of the scientific cooperation with the
producers and users of the auxiliary in leather and footwear
industry.Obtaining the new and/or improved products on the market for the
special requests were also planed.The characterisation and defining the
demanded properities and synthesis of the components depend on the examined
effects of the components.The special interests are directed to the
products for achieving the hydrofobic and lightfastness effects in the
leather and shoe manufacturing.The expected scientific contribution in the
explanation of specific mechanisms of binding into the collagen
structures,as a background of understanding and controlling the
processes,was anticipated.Enlarging the aims of the investigations on the
footwear industry,are new trends of computer aided manufacturing special
for product design (CAD),product manufacturing (CAM) as the road to
computer integrated production (CIM).The only way of fitting in specialised
world shue production in the era of total communication is without
exeption,education,application and developing the CAD/CAM/CIM way of
production.Achieved scientific understanding and the results of
experimental work could give some improvement in the manufacturing of the
present inadequately developed leather and shue processing industry.
