Summary: Thermal degradation of poly(vinyl chloride) (PVC) with differentK-values was investigated. The influence of K-value onthermodinamic behaviour, i.e. glass tnansition and specific heatcapacity, was studied as well. The K-values of polymers have beencompared with the main caracteristics of thermograms, the rateconstant, apparent activation energies and half-life time. Thekinetic parameters confirmed the dependence of thermal stabilityand K-value.

Title: THE APPLICATION OF KINETIC MODELS TO THE PROCESS OF THERMAL DEGRADATION OF POLY(VINYL CHLORIDE)/ACRYLONITRILE-BUTADIENE-STYRENE BLENDS

    Authors:

    Journal: Polimeri
    Number: 2
    Volume: 15

    Pages: from 47 to 52
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: When different kinetis models are applied to data obtained by the isothermal thermogravimetric degradation of PVC/ABS blends, it becomes evident that at temperatures of 210-240 C the process of thermal degradation occurs in the transient area with the autocatalytic action of hydrogenchloride for the degrees of conversion of 5-30 % and 5-15%, depending on the composition of the blend. The effect of chengeability of the process variables on the apparent activation energy (E) and on the pre-exponential factor (Z) is excluded by the calculation of the compensation parameters (Sp=E/logZ). By modifying the blend composition, only the kinetics of the process are changed.

Meeting: 5th EUROPEAN POLYMER FEDERATION SYMPOSIUM OF POLYMERIC MATERIALS
    Held: from 10/09/94 to 10/12/94
Summary: The thermal degradation process of PVC/ABS blends was investigated by dynamic thermogravimetry in the temperature range 50-650 C in air. The thermooxidative degradation of PVC/ABS blends takes place in three stages. The first stage, presented by dehydroclorination, is the most rapid. The apparent activation energies of the first grade degradation and preexponential factors, calaulated after Kissinger method, are equivalent to the values for the thermal degradation of PVC/ABS blends in inert.

Meeting: 5th EUROPEAN POLYMER FEDERATION SYMPOSIUM OF POLYMERIC MATERIALS
    Held: from 10/09/94 to 10/12/94
Summary: The thermal degradation of miscible and immscible system of PVC/MS-AN-MMA blends has been investigated by means of dynamic thermogravimetry. The blends were prepared with two different methods. The effect of the degradation products of one polymer on the degradation process of the other polymer in the blend was estabilished. The method of preparation of samples, i.e. miscibility or immiscibility, does not affect the nonisothermal degradation of PVC/MS-AN-MMA blends.

Proceedings title: 5th European Polymer Federation Symposium of Polymeric Materials
    Language: engleski
    Place: Basel, Switzerland
    Year: 1994
    Pages: from 2.93 to 2.93
Meeting: 5th EUROPEAN POLYMER FEDERATION SYMPOSIUM OF POLYMERIC MATERIALS
    Held: from 10/09/94 to 10/12/94
Summary: In this work the behaviour of polymer blend PVC/PBT, dissolved in the mixture of phenol and 1,2 dichlorobenzene (1:1), has been investigated. By DSC method the immiscibility for all the compositions has been estabilished and the fraction of crystalline phase of PBT in the blends is unchanged. Three degradation stages can be observed on the TG curves of the blends: 1) dehydrochlorination of PVC, 2) degradation of the PBT and 3) carbonization of dehydrochlorinated residue. PVC does not affect the thermal degradation of PBT in the blend.

Meeting: 12. DANI DRUŠTVA PLASTIČARA I GUMARACA
    Held: from 06/21/94 to 06/24/94
Summary: In this work the miscibility of PVC/PBT blends with until 30% plasticizer and without plasticizer (DOP) was invastigated. The temperature of glass transition and melting point of the samples were determined by the DSC method. It was found that PVC/PBT blends are immiscible. The blends of PVC/PBT with DOP which containe more than 50% PBT have lower glass transition temperature then PVC/DOP blends. The another indicator of immiscibility is existing of crystalline phase of PBT. The melting point of PBT decreased with increasing of PVC fraction.

Summary: The process of thermal degradation of PVC/MBS blends in inert atmosphere was invastigated by means of isothermal thermogravimety at 230,240,250 i 260 C. Applying different kinetic models in this temperature ranges complexity of the degradation process was found. Summary: The process of thermal degradation of PVC/MBS blends in inert atmosphere was investigated by means of isothermal ans nonisothermal thermogravimetry. Two commercial samples of MBS of different impact strenght was used. Thermal degradation in isothermal conditions was followed at 230,240,250 and 260 C during 120 minutes. Nonisothermal measurments were carried out in the temperature range from 50 to550 C. Applying different kinetic models in the conversion degree range 0,05 to 0,30 the complexity of the degradation process was found and going on in the kinetic and diffusion region. The kinetic parameters of the process were determined: apparent activation energy and preexponential factor.According to the compensation parameters the machanism of degradation of PVC was unchanged; by adding the MBS only the kinetics of the processchanges. PVC blend containing the MBS of lower impact strenght has shown better thermal stability and by means of differential scanning calorimetry better compability was found.
