Summary: In the present time there are many unconventional solutions
instructural projects of many ship types.
The paper deals with some unconventional solutions of tankers.Trends of
depth and moulded breadth for conventional tankers havealso been analysed.
By changing the conventional "design by rules" concept to the new"design by
analysis" concept, the choice of design can beremarkably broadened, and the
design itself becomes one of thecompetitive power resources.

Summary: The article discusses two underlining philosophies of
qualityassurance strategies. One is of a traditional viewpoint in
thedirection of process flow or "downstream", while the other one isturned
backward or "upstream". Through an overwiew of changes inthe quality
assurance attributes, a brief critical review onparticular solutions are
given, until the occurence of the totalquality concept already considered
as today's myth.
In relation to production process and product qualityimprovements, the
merits are assigned to statistical analysis inquality control, with an
expectation of further contribution toinstall an advanced approach in
quality management. by quotationof several methods, the author express that
they are not a kindof novelty, but only as a known tools applied in the
approachtransformation too. Besides, the quality control cannot obtainbest
effect unless the whole company amalgamates and cooperatesto practice it.

crucialfactors in maintaining safe ships exploitation are an
appropriateinspection strategy and the established quality
standards.Therefrom, more importance is given to ships

ofhull structure condition surveys. With planning of surveys andproviding a
systematic evidence of all relevant data, the vesselowner is capable of
assessing the hull structure condition andrequirements for steel renewal,
and decisions making about theships maintenance schedules and repair works.

Summary: Strategic management of the environmental quality in an
organization will always be more effective when all the employees have an
understanding of the basic tools of quality assurance and improvement
methods. Engineers and managers in the environmental quality assurance
function would generally be experts in one or more areas of process
control, reliability engineering, inspection and testing procedures, or
engineering data analysis.
The paper considers possible ways to the quality, as particularly in
view of the emerging challenges for environmental engineering. A definition
of the environmentality as one of quality dimensions as well as aspects of
industrial production from the standpoint of living systems are given. The
basis of an environmental quality assurance program is drafted too.

Summary: Assurance of quality has become a necessity of the everyday
life, but equally so, the indispensable faculty for joining the European
Community Market, having in view that as of January 1st, 1993, an
established QA/QC System in accordance with the ISO 9000 standards has been
required in evidence that all preconditions for a quality
trading/production have been fulfilled, as a minimum warranty for the
standard of quality of any product or service tendered.
In this paper, an attempt has been made, through a "problem listing"
approach, to indicate the most prominent difficulties a shipbuilding
organization is likely to face in its process of realization of that huge
development venture called the "DEVELOPING OF A QUALITY SYSTEM".

Summary: In addition to having become definitely a necessity, in the
modern trade and industry the quality assurance has for evermore become an
institution of indispensability. It has thereby appeared as quite
inevitable that as of begining of 1993, companies became obliged to
introduce their proper quality systems in conformance with the norms of the
ISO 9000, so as to guarantee in their trade and/or production operations
the quality demanded by contemporary European standards.
Introductory chapter of this work deals with description, structure,
role and position of the quality system. Further on, functioning,
management, and documentative aspects of the quality system have been
presented. Quality system audit, with typical stages in its performance
have thereafter been treated, with the last part of the work having been
dedicated to setting forth the bases of a methodological approach to
quality system designing.

Summary: The effectiveness of concept or preliminary design
investigation considerably depends on the ability to select the best
possible ship among the design alternatives. In this work the Multiple
Attribute Ranking procedure is applied for selecting the best possible ship
based on consideration of different targets such as stability, powering and
seakeeping. The decision matrix, describing the vessels in terms of
attributes' values, feeds the evaluation procedure by wich the designer
performs the synthesis up to the definition of the best possible vessel in
given environmental and operating conditions.
In the application described, the mathematical model of three
hatchcoverless containerships was based on analytical, numerical and
statistical formulation of stability, powering and seakeeping performances.

Summary: Ship design process is the phase in the overall
shipbuilding process in which the most important decisions regarding
parameters of designed ship are set. Thus, this is the phase for starting
activities on quality assurance.
In this article the basic directions for development of an expert
system in the field of quality assurance are presented. This expert system
will process the ship technical features in order to select those ones
which are critical for ship quality. The role of this system takes place in
the earlier phase of planning activities on quality assurance, enabling
managers to choose the more effective strategy for quality assurance.

Title: Analiza utjecajnih zavisnosti kao sredstvo izbora
strategija osiguranja kvalitete u brodogradnji
- Authors:
- Krilić, Tatjana (161543)
Type of work: Istraživački projekt, Universita degli Studi di Trieste, 01.01.1994.-31.12.1994.
Language: engleski
Summary: The work was performed in several steps. Hatchcoverless
containership parent form was choosen as a start point, and after
calculation of basic project features three alternative compartmentations
are investigated in order to obtain the influence of different features on
the overall ship quality.
The Multiple Attribute Ranking procedure is applied for selecting the
best possible ship compartmentation alternative based on consideration of
different attributes, arising mainly from calculation of trim, intact and
damage stability.
The cross-impact matrix is suggested as a tool for the selection of
the most important attributes of a decision making process. This method is
an Adaptation of technological forecasting technique known as Cross-Impact
Analysis. Moreover, the application of cross-impact approach to the problem
of calculating relative importances (or weights) of particular attributes
was performed according to the so-called Influence Method.
In order to reduce uncertainties in selection of main ship
characteristics, the introduction of cross-impact approach as well as multi
attribute techniques requires a global innovation in design departments.
Experience with innovative designs in other engineering fields shows that
it is nonsense in economic terms to maintain traditional philosophy and
procedures.
