Summary: Research under this project encompasses several activities aimed to solve the problem of loading pattern optimization for PWR in a most effective way. For the effective solution of the problem of loading pattern optimization for PWR, a fast and accurate modelling of core depletion is needed, as well as an appropriate optimization model. In order to improve core modelling a new multicycle fuel depletion method has been developed, the first order perturbational core model has been improved, and parametrization of axial effects in two dimensional core calculations has been studied. Stochastic-heuristic approach has been chosen for the development of the optimization method. The basic version of the new loading pattern optimization code has been developed and tested. Besides these major activities, the application of modern techniques in modelling of the neutral particle transport for various fuel management problems has been studied.

Keywords: Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR), fuel management, reactor core, perturbational model, multicycle fuel depletion, loading pattern, stochastic optimization.

Research goals: The ultimate goal of the research is development of the method for the determination of optimal loading pattern for PWR. To accomplish this goal it is necessary to improve the existing core neutronics models and/or develop new ones that will be more appropriate for loading pattern determination. An appropriate optimization model has to be developed as well. This research project should result in: - development of the new multicycle fuel depletion model; - development of the new perturbational core model; - development of the model for efficient treatment of axial nonhomogeneties in the core; - the optimization model appropriate for loading pattern optimization.
