Summary: The author's intention is to find out whether there exists
any difference of the incidence and characteristics of pathological septal
deformities in subjects belonging to various ethnic groups as well as
countries in the world. The basic concept of the project investigation
consists of examining as much subjects in each ethnic group or geographical
region by means of anterior rhinoscopy. The observations are performed in
accoordance to Mladina's classification of pathological septal deformities.
The results obtained so far from seven various homogenous ethnic group
suggest almost equal distribution of pathological septal deformities all
over the world. Regarding geographical distribution some differences can be
of interest for further investigations. The practical aim of this project
is to find out the most effective way for the establishment of a strict,
internationaly accepted staging system for chronic rhinosinusitis that
could be applied and set up in any computer database system in the world.
First results strongly encourage further investigations.
Research goals: The aim of this investigation is to find out the
distribution of pathological septal deformities in the world. This is the
way how to enable checking of the Mladina's classification of pathological
septal deformities (1987) which could become the base for the establishment
of an internationaly accepted staging system for chronic rhinosinusitis and
functional endoscopic sinus surgery. The results obtained so far suggest
encourage facts for the future.
