Summary: RI, PI and peak systolic velocity were compared between a
groupof 70 patients with carcinoma of the cervix and 39 healthysubjects. It
has been shown that there exists a significantdifference in the mean values
of the RI and PI, while the peaksystolic velocity was not significantly
different. The resistanceindex (RI) in healthy subjects exhibits a highly
unsymmetricaldistribution and does not have a Gaussian distribution.
Otherparamters have fairly symmetrical distributions. The distributionof
the stages among the diseased patients was I (five), II (18),III (40) and
IV (four).

Summary: After an explanation of the tumour neovascularisation
conceptwhich underlies the changes of the Doppler flow measurementresults,
the difference between healthy women and malignancies inthe corpus uterus,
endometrium, leiomyomas, cervix carcinomas, sarcomas, adnexal masses,
trophoblastic disease, postmenopausalovary have been measured and found
significantly different.Normal cyclic neovascularisation during the
menstrual cycle hasbeen studied and taken into account when assessing
themalignancies. The RI ranged in different types of malignanciesand
different sites from 0.37 and 0.57 so that the decision valuemay be defined
only if other said parameters are known. Thesources of errors have been
studied and discussed.

Summary: The reduction of tumour size after irradiation and
cztostatic therapy has been measured. The reduction is significant and can
well be detected with ultrasound echography. The change of blood flow
parameters (PI and RI) is significant for the diseased cervix and so is the
number of spots with detectable flow, but the variance is too large for the
use with individual patients.

Summary: A system for axial blood flow measurement along an
intraluminalcatheter consists of two sets of piezoelectric transducers,
ofwhich one bears a protrusion of the form of a hydrofoil while theother
does not. Axial blood flow induces lift on one of the said
transducers while the other senses only the static and quasistatic
pressure. The two sets of transducers are connected insuch a way as to
cancel out the said static pressure so that thenet signal is proportional
to square of the axial blood velocity.
