Summary: We are going to show the importance of the prognostic "risk" factors on the sample of 25o children suffering from hemoblastosis, (the most frequent malignant disease of children), who have been treated in the period from the 1st of January 1991, and are to be treated until the 31st December 1999, at the Centre for Hemoblastosis of the Institute for Children Hemoblastosis and Oncology of the Clinic for Children Disease, the Medical Faculty Šalata,Zagreb. The research is to improve: a) diagnosis, b) classification, c) predictability of disease prognoses, d) to establish the real value (therapeutic and prognostic) of risk factors, e) easier establishing of tumour cell characteristics (by means of defining citomorphologic, citochemical and especially, immunofenotype, changes in chromosomes, in the DNA substance, and the level of CD 8 antigens in tumour cells), before the beginning of a treatment, f) finding out the level of achieved remission, g) earlier establischiment of a relapse. All this is to improve the accuracy in determining "risk" factors which would help to distinguish among the low, standard and highly risky groups of patients. It would also determine the most optimal type of treatment (very aggressive type of treatment followed by high risk of serious side-effects, less aggressive type of treatment followed by a smaller number of side-effects). This would also improve results of a treatment and increase the number of cured children suffering from this malignant disease.

Keywords: Prognostic factors, Treatment, Acute lymphatic leukemia, Acute myeloic leukemia, Hodgkin lymphoma, Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in children

Research goals: The main goal of this research is to improve the treatment of children suffering from malignant disease, the most frequent one being hemoblastosis, which is the main couse of death of children, according to the research on the importance of the prognostic "risk" factors. The research is to benefit in: a) diagnosis( more accurate diagnosis and possibility at an earlier stage), b) classification (higher accuracy in establishing the subtype of a disease), c) predictability of disease prognoses, d) finding out the real value (therapeutic and prognostic) of "risk" factors, e) defining tumour cell characteristics (to determine citomorphological, citochemical and especially immunofenotype, change of chromosome, the DNA substance, as well as CD 8 antigenes in tumour cells) before the beginning of a treatment which would help determine the most optimal protocol of a treatment, f) establishing the level of achieved remission, g) earlier progmoses of a relapse, h) following the immunity, cariogram, as well as all the above mentioned parameters would direct the intensity and duration of a treatment. All the above mentioned examinations, this is to say the results of examinations, should improve treatment results of children suffering from hemoblastosis.
