Summary: The project is planed as 5-yearly research and caring out in two main groups and few subgroups. First, it is investigation of weather influence on several most frequent diseases, and secondly the research of bioclimate of various parts of Croatia. Inside the first group, besides the investigations finding a statistical relationship between weather parameters and disease incidence, there are clinical and laboratory investigations performing to discover the changes in the body caused by significant weather situations. Within the second group, together with the research of bioclimate and its variability from year to year, it is caring out the research of various bioclimatic indices characteristics, attempting to find the own bioclimatic index adapted for the most similar to human sensation climate appreciation. The project is continuation of former investigation and has aspiration to complete systematically our earlier understanding about the relation between the weather and human health. In the period 1991-95 from the first group of project were studied: -cerebrovascular disease and myocardial infarction together with the changes in blood coagulability in different meteorological situations (passage of atmospheric fronts, before and after the passage) -respiratory diseases of children (bronchial asthma) at inland and coastal part of Croatia -number of suicidal attempts in various weather conditions -atmospheric biotropy of all the above mentioned diseases and of some earlier studied as well. From the second group were studied: -bioclimatic characteristics and thermal comfort of many locations at inland and coastal parts of Croatia -the bioclimatic index TWH was developed at the basis of air temperature, wind speed and relative humidity combined influence on human thermal sensation.

Research goals: 1. The goal is to find if correlation between diseases with high morbidity and mortality and weather conditions exists; and to discover the essential characteristics of correlated weather. Also the goal is to detect the changes ofphysiological parameters in human body connected with unfavourable meteorological conditions. It is planned because of performing the base for biometeorological forecast and undertaking of prevention. 2. In the field of bioclimatic investigation the goal is to define bioclimatic indices including all meteorological parameters relevant for human sensation (air temperature, humidity, wind, sun radiation); and by them classify the bioclimate of various parts of Croatia.
