Summary: The aim of this investigation was to define new diagnostic
algorithms for early diagnosis and follow-up of patients with interstitial
lung diseases. Examinees were comprised of asbestos-axposed workers
(N=400), patients with asbestosis (N=45), sclerodermia (N=23) and
sarcoidosis (N=30). Evaluating protocol included longitudinal measurements
of lung function, chest x-ray and lung CT, quntified by our own method,
arterial blood gases and dynamic radionuclide angiography, analyzed by our
own methods. It was found that the early phase of these diseases is
characterized by transient increase in lung transfer factor for CO (TLCO),
what is the sole noninvasive sensitive paramater in early alveolitis.

Research goals: The goal of this investigation was to improve
noninvasive diagnostics and evaluation of the interstitial lung diseases
(ILD). A definition of a simple diagnsotic protocol for early detection,
follow-up and objective evaluation of working ability in patients with ILD
is expected.
