Summary: The circulating platelet aggregates were measured in 90
patientsadmitted to the Clinical Hospital Split because of
myocardialinfarction developed in the coastal region of Middle Dalmatia.
They were divided into threee groups, each consisting of30patients affected
by coronary incident developed during the threemost characteristic weather
types in the region: sirocco, boraand calm weather. All the patients have
had elevated values ofcirculating thrombocyte aggregates, but the patient
in thesirocco group exhibited significantly higher values(34,77%+-11,67%)
than the patients in bothbora(27,93%+-11,72;p<0,05) and the calm weather
groups(23,5+-10,62%;p<0,01). In the control group of10 healthyexaminees the
values of circulating platelet aggregates werewithin normal range during
all the three weather types(5,85%+-0,70,5,24+-0,51% and 5,18+-0,59%, in
case of sirocco,bora and calm weather respectively). The three groups were
notsignificantly different regarding the values of creatine kinase,which
means that the infarct size was not the probable cause ofthe observed
differencies in platelet aggregability. Taking intoaccount our previous
finding of increased incidence of coronaryevents durin sirocco, these
results suggest that increasedplatelet aggregability is a contributing
factor to the risk ofmyocardial infarctionduring such a weather.

Summary: The authors observed the samples of 478 subjects, i.e. 366
CSF and 112 aqueous humor samples with matched sera. Seven different
numerical methods by which the transffered and intrathecally/intraocullary
synthesized fractions of IgG can be analyzed in CSF and aqueous humor, were
tested in control subjects and in pathologic conditions. Oligoclonal IgG,
IL-4 and beta2-microglobulin levels were also observed. The results
obtained indivated that the measurement of IL-4 and beta2-microglobulin in
the mentioned body fluids might be useful adjunct to the detection of
oligoclonal IgG and numerical evaluation of IgG synthesis, in situations
when the intrathecal/intraocular immune response is observed means of CSF
or aqueous humor analysis. Some specific aspects of IL-4 and
beta2-microglobulin behaviour in CSF, aqeous humor and serum are briefly
discussed.

Summary: Clinical observation of the apparent clustering of daily
ishaemic stroke admissions to a regional hospital prompted our
investigation of possible meteorologic factors associated with stroke
admissions. This study investigates the effects of six meteorologic
factors: atmospheric pressure, air temperature, relative humidity,
insolation, wind velocity, cloudness andpassing-by of the weather fronts-
the forward edges of anadvancing masses of cold/warm air over the examined
area. Data were collected during the six-year period in a country with a
mild mediterranean temperate climate. Daily hospitalisation and
meteorologic data were studied for 561 patients with ishaemic stroke
admitted to Clinical Hospital of Split. Statistical analyses investigated
possible effects of observed meteorologic factors on the frequency of days
with ischaemic strokes.
Multyway frequency tables were analysed with log-linear model in order to
asses the possible statistical significance of variables. We do not find
any clear dependence on the climatic factors envisaged here on the
probability of cerebral infarction except for one factor: weather fronts.
The frequency of ishaemic strokes was significantly connected with warm and
occluded fronts in the cold period of year, and , similarly, with cold
front inthe warm season. This connection may be explained by increases in
thromboembolic mechanisms secondarly to physiolgic changes in response
rapid temperature change. When such changes of meteorologic conditions are
predicted, information on the added risk for stroke needs to be
disseminated to both the risk groups and to health care providers.
