Summary: The diabetic maculopathy is the main therapeutic problem
and the cause of poor visual acuity in diabetics with diabetic
retinopathy. In this scientific project a comparative analysis of efficacy
between focal extramacular and focal macular perifoveolar argon laser
photocoagulation for the treatment of diabetic maculopathy was presented.
The follow-up period was 12 months and was based on fluorescein
angiograms and examination of visual acuity on international optotypes.
Results of this project showed that focal macular perifoveolar technique
gave better clinical and functional results than focal extarmacular
technique in the treatment of diabetic maculopathy.
Research goals: The aim of this project is to examine which of
theese two actual techniques of focal photocoagulation, focal
extramacular treatment and focal macular perifoveolar treatment, is more
efficient in clinical and functional sense in the treatment of diabetic
maculopathy and which one is to be applied in everyday work. Other information about the project.
