Summary: Purpose of investigation is to determine incidence and features of thyroid disease in diabetic patients : how often they are, do they depend on the type, severity and duration of diabetes mellitus, what is their impact on control of glycaemia and finally do they differ from the similar thyroid disease in nondiabetic patients. Available data are older and are not complete. New data deal with type I diabetes and are related to diabetes in childhood.

Research goals: 1)Determine the incidence of thyroid disease in our diabetic patients. 2)Are there any differences in the incidence of thyroid disease as whole or in the incidence of particular thyroid disease between patients with insulin dependent and insulin independent type of diabetes mellitus. 3)Determine influence of duration and severity od diabetes mellitus on occurrence of thyroid disease. 4)Do the treatment modalities have any influence. 5)Do the epidemiologic, clinical and laboratory features of thyroid disease in diabetic patients as whole group and in patients with type I and type II diabetes mellitus respectively differ from the same thyroid pathology in patients without diabetes mellitus. 6) What is the impact of thyroid disease on glycaemia control in diabetic patients.
