Summary: The "Project of studying the psychological characteristics of the unemployed within the framework of the Counselling Center" has been designed with the idea to get better information about the health status of the unemployed,with the special emphasis concerning their mental health.The accomplishment of this aim would make possible the planning of prevention and treatment of this populatin,reducing the cost of their further treatment,and improving the quality of their lifes.The study is using the method of psychiatric interview,and various questionnaires,as well as the already existing multifactorial personality tests.In the cases requiring psychotherapy,the same is beeing carried out in the Clinic for Psychological Medicine,through individual and group psychotherapy.Concerning the increase of unemployment in the recent time,we think that contribution to the quality of life of that population will have a significant impetus for the health of the community as the whole.

Research goals: Through the study of the psychological,biological and sociological characteristics of the unemployed in the Republic of Croatia will make possible the following: 1. The information about the mental health in the population of the unemployed.Prevention of spreading of dissatisfaction to the other members of the community and by that decreasing the focus of agression and dissatisfaction. 2. The possibility for planning and intervention in prevention and organized mental health assistence. 3. Improvement of the quality of life of the unemployed,and reducing the cost of their further medical treatment.
