Summary: The aim of the study is to obtain reference values for lung
function tests in school children. For that purpose dynamic lung volumes
and expiratory flow rates are individually determined in the sample of
healthy school children living in the city of Rijeka including its wider
surroundings. Calculated values will represent reference standards for
surveyed population. They could also be used for creation of unique
Croatian spirometric reference values.
Keywords: Child, lung function tests, reference values.
Research goals: Using modern statistical methods we will obtain
reference values for lung function tests (FVC, FEV1, MEF, PEF) in healthy
school children. The results of the study will be of a great help in
routine medical work on surveyed area, because obtained reference values
are of a basic importance when interpreting spirometric findings.
Furthermore, the reference values could be compared and even unified with
those already found in Split and Zagreb in order to create unique Croatian
spirometric reference values for school children.
