Summary: In the samples of m. gracilis, m. longissimus, and
m.semispinalis capitis of 50 normal slaughter-preciding pigs,typical
changes indicating hyaline and even waxy degenerationwere revealed.
Moreover, in all cases there were changes in theblood vessels, for the most
part in the sense of a fibrinousdegeneration. In the wall of a number of
blood vessels and intheir surroundings the proliferation of macrophages but
withoutneutrophils was observed. In some larger blood vessels, especially in
those with a narrowed lumen, there was afibroelastic wall thickening, in
most cases infiltrated withproliferated macrophages. The changes observed
ranged from thewall thickening to an almost total occlusion of blood
vessels.

Summary: The authors describe their experiences in the prevention
ofsystemic muscle dystrophy in lambs of both individual and
bigsheep-breeding farms. Recommendations to administer Muviselvitamin
addition wiht selen to lambs immediately after birth andagain after 18-21
days at recommended dosages for piglets, haveproduced excellent results.
The authors have also advised sheepbreeders to administer Muvisel vitamin
addition with selen tosheep 15-20 days prior to lambing, but the feed-back
informationon the use and obtained results are still missing. They
haveconcluded that it is indispensable do conduct adequate studiesand to
include other professions in the activities for protectionof animal health,
and indirectly also human health. This wouldprimarly involve the producers
of prophylactic agents as they canplay an important role in the performance
of future studies andinvestigations. The soil, in particular that
intensively treatedwith artificial fertilizers, and its plants are
becomingincreasingly deficient in selenium and vitamin E, as well as
inother vitamins and minerals, so that in the future investigationsit is
necessary to pay attention to both macro- and microelementswhich are not
contained in Muvisel preparation.

Summary: A sudden death of about 60 pigs at the time of weaning
isdescribed. A whole series of factors are discussed which may
havecontributed to the nutritive deficiency of vitamin E and seleniumin
pigs. Of course, a considerable role in the death of pigs hadmouldly and
hydrolytico-oxidative adulterated food, but thedecisive stress factor in
pigs was the increased physical effortduring their analysis of the
myocardium showed the hyaline-waxydegeneration and the infarct approaching
syndrome of the heartmusculature. This finding incontrovertibly shows that
the causeof the sudden death of pigs was the heart failure due to
dieteticmyocardiopathy.

Summary: Nutritive deficiency diseases are numerous and various. All
domestica animals are affected and they are a consequence of apsolute
(inadequate soil fertilisation especially with nitric fertilasers) or
relative (gastroduodenal diseases, contaminations) deficite.
