Summary: A special attention was paid to the relief and soil type
frequncy
in the individual slope classes. The reason was twofold: firstly,
the depth is an inportant phytoecological feature, very much
associated vith the forest environmental use; secondly, the field
work is aggravated by the specific, inaccessable relief. By a
double variance analysis, we established the places of
differences and decided that the slope classes >33 and 17 -32
have the strongest influence upon the soil depth of the studied
area.

Summary: The first statistical data of some properties of the main
soil
types in the investigated community show a wide range of active
soil reaction (low to high acid proportion) and convergent humus
evolution (tab.1). Comparing the soil conditions (pH, content of
C, C/N and Amo horizon depth) in the preserved, unmanaged forest
(average volume of vood 549 m3/ha) and in the stand which is very
close (V=326m2/ha and G=33m3/ha) to a hypothetical normal forest
of a middle site class, no statistically significant difference
was determined in an aproximate 20 year period.

Summary: In the Plitvice National Park comparative research was
carried
out on the status and change of the forest ecosystem soil that
has occasionaly supported parked cars. The research encompassed
the following parameters: soil reaction, nitrogen regime, the
contents of biogene elements and the concentration of heavy
metals in the sediment and lysimetric water. In the treated and
control soil, the process of soil acidification was established.
In the forest floor, the concentration of calcium (CaO) in the
end butt is several times lower than under the outer third of the
crown.

Summary: In this paper the new data on heavy metals soil load
arepresented. Research was carried out in 3 different forestcommunities of
silver fir at the area of "Risnjak" National Park.12 trial plots were
defined. By microsite method on the all plotsthe acidification degree and
the content of Pb, Zn i Cu weredetermined. Our results confirmed that the
degree of soil heavymetals load is correlated with the height above sea
level andelevation.

Summary: Sampling and measurements on 240 points provided data on
the fuelquantity classified according to time lag criteria and
fuelcondition for Aleppo pine, martime pine and black pine.Martime pine has
significantly higher proportion on fuel ascomared to Aleppo pine and black
pine. Aleppo pine and blackpine have higher proportion of fire fuel as
compared to maritimepine. Humus is most frequent fuel type in all three
species.

Summary: This work presents structure in Aleppo pine stands load by
forestfuel and its importance for the fire emergence and its behaviour.In
overall fuel quantity, in both stands, the biggest share hashumus (43,7% in
Split and 59,4% in Dubrovnik). The share of finefuel and its distribution
is very favourable for fire emergenceand its spread. Fuel characteristics
at identical meteorologicalcircumstances stipulate faster fire spread and
greater flamelength in a park forest Marjan as compared to Dubrovnik.

Summary: Research shows that there is a strong linear correlation
betweencrown projection diameter and tree height. Crown projectiondiameters
in all age classes can be levelled by straight lineequation. Crown
projection diameters grow parallel with treeheight increase while this
relationship between particular ageclasses remains unchanged. Trees of
approximately the samediameter, regardless of the stand age, have almost
identicalrelationship between crown projection and tree height.

Summary: Research reveals that, by analogy with the shift of height
curve,occurrs also the shift of stem lenght curve. In the first half
ofrolation the shift is more intensive, while in the other half isa
considerably weaker. At third and fourth age class, the lack ofbigger
number of measured stem lenghts, as well as trees thinnerthan 45 cm is
evident, which caused the appearance of straightline and therefore these
two age classes should rather bepresented by simple linear equation.

Summary: The method of soil material sampling in forest community
english
oak and common hornbeam is presented in this paper. Special
attention is directed towards the sampling of liquids which is
performed by three groups of instruments: collectors of liquids
which flow down the stump, catchers of precipitation under the
tree crown and in the open (rain-gauge) and lysimeters installed
into the soil profile on 10 cm and 100 cm depths, i.e. on depth
under the humus soil horizon and on depth of active soil profile,
respectively.

Summary: Data on the content of lead, copper and zinc in humus Of
subhorizon of forest soils on the territory of National park
"Risnjak" are presented in this paper. Sampling of Of subhorizon
up to 5 cm depth in a net 1km x 1 km large has been carried out
on the overall area of 3198,5 ha. 31 observation points or
locations have been included. All lead concentrations on the
territory of the National park are above limits of 100 ppm on all
locations. Zinc is 300 ppm above limit values on points 4,5,20
and 21 , while copper is within limit values of 100 ppm.

Summary: This work presents data on quantity of sedimented matter
(Cl SO4
, NH4 , NO3 , Na , K , Ca and Mg ) in samples of liquids 12 plots
of different stand age in english oak and common hornbeam
community on identical soil type. Results showed that there is a
matter input into this forest ecosystem. Matter concentrations in
rainmeters under the crowns and in liquids collectors on hornbeam
trees and in lysimeters are bigger (not including NH4 )than in
samples from control rain-gauge.

Summary: Two Vegetational units are clearly distinquished: typical,
of
rich floral composition, mainly on luvisols, and another with
clear domination of the Festuca drymeja and common fir, chiefly
on dystric cambisols of medium depth and deep. The second most
important association in the park is the acidothermophile forest
of the sessileflovered oak wiht hawkweed. It grows upon ridges,
crests and upper hillslopes of dystric cambisols. Besides these
two associations, in the park forest there are more or less
remarkable, though not common, associations of beech with wood
rush mostly on dystric cambisols and the Illyric forest of the
sessile-flofered oak and common hornbeam upon hillslope
pseudogley and pseudogleyic dystric cambisol.

Summary: The autors have found the type of changes in the soil, the
direction of fir dieblack process and oscillations in diameter
ane volume increment in connection with the degree of crown
damage. There have been found the differences between pH values
at the microsite and macrosite. pH values at the microstite
(close to butt end) are of lower degree than the values at the
macrosite (under the crown).

Summary: One of the consequences of the decline of economically
important
forest tree species is the disbalance in dynamics and quantity of
seed production as well as in seed quality. This work presents
first results of these researches of fructification by particular
crown damage degrees. Methodology of further monitoring of
fructification dynamics has been presented. Method of cytogenetic
bioindication which will be investigated according to cathegories
of phenotypic crown damage has also been described.

Summary: In this paper, first results of attempt to sanify (cure)
young, 6 years old common oak stand damaged by repeated bitten off of doe
game are presented. The experiment has been established on the territory of
Forest directorate Karlovac by the end of March 1992 and the coppicing was
done. First results were obtained by second measurement by the end of March

Summary: The preliminary citogenetic researches of common oak have
an objective to determine whether the correspondence between the forest
drying and die-back and genetic material, i.e. chromosomes exists.We can
conclude on the basis of results of preliminary research that it will be
possible to apply the procedure of determination of phenotypic and

Summary: Research results of quantity of forest trees young crop and
bushes and the damage caused by roe deer and red deer game on 25 localities

Summary: Twelve test plots were selected in this three forest
communities. In each plot ten samples of A horizon were taken and one
average samle was made.It was concluded that the most threatened are slopes
and hilltops exposed to northwest, or southwest. The amounts of lead found
in subhorizon were above the critical level of 100 ppm at all checked
points, zinc was above the threshold at four points, wihile the copper
levels were below the threshold at all localities.

Summary: Eighteen lysimetres were ser up on nine experimental plots
in a forest of Pedunculate Oak and Common Hornbeam. The lysimetres were
installed at depths of 10 cm, i. e. under the humus accumulative horizon
and 100 cm, i.e. in the mineral part of the soil. The soil type is
pseudogley of level terrain's. Following soil stabilization of 2 years
content of heavy metals in lysimetric liquids was determined.The liquids
had a slightly increased content of heavy metals.

Summary: 31 observation points or locations have been included. Ouf
of 10individual Of subhorizon samples one average sample has been madeon
each point in 10 meters diameter. After results of laboratoryanalyses it
was concluded that all lead concentrations on theterritory of the National
park are above limits of 100 ppm on alllocations. Zinc is 300 ppm above
limit values on points 4,5,20and 21, while copper is within limit values of
100 ppm.

erforschten Flachen wurden hohere pH-Werte im Stammende
(Mikrostandort) festgestellt, verglichen mit den pH-Werten des
A-Horizontes unter der Baumkrone (Makrostandort). Eine Erhohung
des Bleianteils in den Gesellschaften der Tanne mit Calamagrostis
(Calamagrosti-Abietetum) und der Tanne mit Buche (Abieti-fagetum)
wurde ebenso festgestellt.

Summary: GIS technology was used in pilot project for classification
of
Croatian forests for the seed husbandry purposes. The map section
Pakrac (scale 1:100.000) was digitalized in layers: soil types,
plant communities, geology, eco-management types, roads and
streams. For ewery layer 20 features (numeric and attributive)
were established in data base. GIS analyses give ua new layers(
forest site, soil acidity per plant community etc.) useful in
forest classifications for diferent purposes.

vegetation zone of holly oak (Orno-Quercetum ilicis). Allepo pine forests
with well-developed maquis layer cover around 50 % of the National Park
area. Most frequent and dangerous enemy to these forests and whole island
is fire. On this island, fires frequently are result of carelessness to
forest vegetation or a lack of aware of its value and importance for the

Summary: Karyological studies of the common oak (Quercus robur L.)
were conducted using meristematic tissues from root-tips of germinating
acorns. The chromosome complement of 2n=2x=24 metacentric and
submetacentric chromosomes was generally observed, although specimens with
one or two B-chromosomes were smaller than all A-chromosomes, and the
karyotype of a 2n=2x=24+2B seedling revealed size differences between the
B-chromosomes.

Summary: To improve land use, more intensive organized pasturing and
by-products gathering have been suggested.In this article real forest
values for different purposes are presented.Results indicate that the value
of wood raw capital is the lowest (index 100) and the environmental value
is highest (index 4089).Productive raw material value could be increased
for 455% (index 455) by introducing agroforestry.
