Summary: Milk and fat percent in first lactation of 2203 HF cows, daughters of 34 bulls were used to estimate variance components, heritabilities, genetic, phenotypic and environmentalcorrelations. Two cases were analysed: 1) complete sample, 2)sample without imported bulls. Heritability estimates for case 1were 0.169,0 0.100 and 0.093 for milk yield, fat yield and fatpercent, respectively. Heritability estimates for case 2 werelower 0.159, 0.069 and 0.057 for milk yield, fat yield and fatpercent, respectively. Genetic, phenotypic and enviromentalcorrelations were similar for both cases, but they showeddecreasing of genetic variation explained in case 2.

Summary: The growth and weight of thirty crossbreeds between Charolais anddomestic cattle breeds of up to one year of age were studied inmountain conditions. The cows calved in spring. Weight and theintensity of growth at certain points in time were evaluated bythe modified Brody growth curve. The research included theinfluence of Charolais blood (75 percent and over 75 percent),calving time (early and late calving) and sex on the growth andweight. The crossbreeds with 75% of Charolais blood turned out tobe more resistant to cold climate and showed greater rapidity ingaining weight than those with greater percentage of Charolaisblood. The calves born later put on weight more rapidly thanthose born earlier, which was probably a reflection of mountainconditions and restrictive feeding of cows in wintertime. Theinfluence of sex manifested itself at a later age

Summary: The effect of calving season on the shape of growth curves ofcalves in suckler herd was examined. Research was carried out on32 Charoolais x Croatian native cattle (Simmental and Istrian)calves. Seasons were defined according to date of calving: beforeand after 15.April. To estimate growth of individual calve logtransformation of growth curve WT=WTo*exp(k*t+x*t2) was used. Thecurves were adjusted on sex and year. Distance among curves wasdefined as d(y1,y2)2 = (y1(t)-y2(t))2dt. Similar calculus wasapplied in analysis of variance. Estimates of F value were 4.998,1.225, 5.019 i 9.527 for intervals 0 to 300 days, 0 to 100 days,100 to 200 days and 200 to 300 days, respectively. The resultsshowed significantly greater weight of animals born after15.April.

Liveweight of calves were 122.8 kg and 174.2 kg at the age of 3 and 6MO, respectively. Average daily gain of calves on pasture was0.770 kg. At the begin of grazing season weight of cows were413.1 kg. After the 30th and 90th day of grazing, their weightswere 448.9 and 513.1 kg, respectively. At the end of grazingseason cows weighted 526.8 kg with average daily gain 0.7 kg.Fertility of cows was 76.9% and the calf loses was 10.5%. In thewhole period, the costs were analyzed as well.

Summary: In the paper some factor that influenced livestock productionwere presented. For the efficacy of production size of farms, location of farm, housing and environment are very important.Special attention was paid to size of farm and some other factorrelated with it. Optimal size of farm has direct relation tomanagement. Further, for the successful animal production geneticbackground is important as well.

Summary: In earlier investigations Petričević et al. (1985) have ascertained significant differencies of the percentage of bones within the carcasses and ham between the Sweden Landrace (SL) and the Hypor (Hy) hogs. In our researshing work the femur and humerus of SL (n=62) and of Hy (n=53) were compared. The following parameters of femur and humerus were measured: the weight, the length, the circumference of diaphysis on the thinnest place, the diameter largest (on the place of measuring the volume) diameter of diaphisis. The data processing is done after Snedecor and Cochran (1967). The weight of carcasses of SL amounted to 79,16 kg, s=4,58 kg of Hy to 79,29 kg, s=5,24 kg. The weight of femur and humerus of SL amounted to 306,79 g and 276,81 g respectively, that of Hy to 327,68 g and 293,11 g respectively. The differences of the weights of femur and humerus between SL and Hy were significant on the 1% level. The length of femur and humerus of SL came to 197,27 mm and 177,49 mm respectively, that of Hy 199,19 mm and 176,79 mm respectively. There were no statistical differencies between them. As for diameter of proximal and distal epiphyses, difference on the 5% level was ascertained for proximal epiphysis of femur only. Both diameters and the circumference of diaphysis differend most and were in Hy greater on the 1% level of significance. The correlation between the weight of carcasses and the weight and length of femur and humerus was high - positively significant. In researching work was ascertained that the weight of femur and humerus in Hy was significantly greater than in SL. The greater diameter and circumference of diaphysis, both of femur and of humerus, in Hy were the ground of the difference.

Summary: The regularity in the development of spacialized dairy farms has been established. The characteristics of those farms in Croatia were investigated. The number of private dairy farms in Croatia is decreasing owing to farmers' age. Significant investment is needfull in order to increase and specialize the production of milk on farms in Croatia. The breeding policy and artificial insemination results interfere with the increase of farms' size. If the increase of farms' size in Croatia should depend on their proper financial support and investment at actual production circumstances, the marker milk production would be insufficient due to low productivity and economic inefficiency. Undeveloped milk market and an inadequate State policy cannot acitivate economic lows that would stimulate farms' size increase rapid enlarging of milk production per cow and increase of labour productivity.

Summary: A possible use of varicus quantilies of dried olive cake in feeding fattening chickens up to 50 days was investigated. Dried olive cake was obtained is from the classical promethod of making olive oil (crushing). A total of 119 male chicks from the broiler breeding farm JATA in Domžale, divided into three groups, two test groups of 40 birds each, and a control group of 39 birds, were included in the trial. All, the chickens up the age of 30 days were fed on the starter, after that the finisher fodder mix. The controis were fed on a commercial fodder mix, the first test group (P1) a mix with 5% of olive cake, the second test group (P2) a mix with 10% of olive cake. Throughout the testing period the chickens of both test groups were ligher and achieved poorer weight gains than the controls, their feed consumption was insignificantly lower than of the controls. The feed conversion rate was equal in the chickens of all groups.

    Held: from 12/15/94 to 12/16/94
Summary: The Republic of Croatia has 3,208.000 ha od agricultural surface of which, 50,6% are arable surfaces and 49,4% are grasslands. Forage production as technological base for intensive live stock production was not compatible with the socialist concept of agriculture which was based upon macimum exploitation of producing potencials of a unit and not on maximum exploitation of a unit of financial investment. Uninterrupted forage production from 1 ha of an arable surface insures fodder that satisfies required needs of energy and digestable proteins for three dairy cows that produce daily 15 kg of milk. Meat cows are ideal ruminants for grassland exploation as good meat producers since they have the possibility to store body fat during the grazing period which affers abundance of food and using the reserves up during winter which is an unfavorable feeding period. Results are shown in graphs and tables.

Summary: Authors investigated the digestibilities by the "in sacco" technique of several species spontaneously grown in the mediterranean rangelands of Festuca Koelerietum splendentis and Quercus spp., Phillyrea media, Rubus fruticosus, Cistus spp., Erica arborea and Clematis flamula: forbs, grasses and legumes were also included as separate groups in the study. It was found that digestibility varied considerably amont species or groups of species as well as between seasons.
