Summary: Since the World War II period the number of horses in Croatia has decreased. The external characteristics as well as the purpose of using the horses has changed, too. Their external changes, and therefore th body dimensions came out as the result of the crossing with larger and havier breeds and better quality of food during the winter season. By comparison of the published information obout the horse body dimensions from the region of the Sava river valley 60 years ago and todays data, we have concluded that todays horses grew up in withers height, from the range of 136-145 cm(1) to 149,21 cm(11). Chest width has gone from 161,60 cm(4) to 192,42 cm(11), while the cannon bone.....

    Held: from 07/08/90 to 07/12/90
Summary: The aim of this study was to determine which line of stallions, regarding their participation, suits best for breeding of the Lipizzaner horse breed both in studs and popular folks breeding. The are five studs of Lipizzaner horse breeding in Yugoslavia: Đakovo, Karađorđevo, Lipica, Lipik and Prnjavor with 153 Lipizzaner breed stallions and 117 animals of male breed offsprings, older than 1 year. The data for this study were taken from the parent book-keeping evidence. The share of individual breed lines is different consequently to tradition of breeding and duration of the breeding work. Among eight lines the greatest share belongs to the stallions of line Siglavy, the lowest.....

Summary: The objective of this study was to determine some reproductive traits of Lipizzaner breed mares grown both in studs and popularly in the region of Slavonia. This research was done on 48 breeding mares of the Breeding Center from Đakovo and 48 breeding mares of popular folks growing. The first fertilization of fillies fro, studs was conducted at their age of 3.62 years, and of those from popular breeding at age of 3.90 years. The first foaling of stud fillies occured at age of 4.56 and of popular breeding at age of 4.82 years. Pregnancy of the stud mares lasted 0.71 day shorter compared with that of animals from popular breeding, while the service period lasted less by 9.48 days.

Summary: In the Republic of Croatia there is a need for making an attemp to save Posavian horse. Croatian coldblooded horse is not endangered breed, as it is noticed in World Watch List for Domestic Animal Diversity (p. 243). The Posavian horse in croatian scientific literature is described as an autochton breed from the Sava river valley. Its origin begins with crossings of autochton horses with Illyrian, Celtic, Roman, Avarin and other horses till the middle of our century. Posavina horse is a Przewalsky form of horse breed. The basical external measures for mares were: Height of wither with stick: 136.30-137.14 cm, deepness of breast: 63.03-64.50 cm, the circuit of metacarpus from 17.64-18.06 cm. The weight of adult mares were 311-342 kg. We have started with searching for such animals in some areas for identification and determination of breed as critical or extincted.
