Summary: Jugular plasma progesterone was determined for two groups
ofnative ewes (Pramenka , Groups 1,2,)and for a group of Romanovewes (Group
3). Ewes were pregnant until end of March. From theend of March to
beginning of July progesterone concentrationdecreased (0 - 0.15 ng/mL).
From early July to late October,progesterone concentration increased.
Progesterone concentrationswere at their nadir near the summer solstice and
increasedsignificantly by early July in all three groups. The duration
ofanestrus was similar in Pramenka and Romanov ewes. In nonpregnant
Pramenka ewes, the pattern of changes in plasmaprogesterone was similar to
those seen in pregnant ewes.
