Summary: Family farms with average small production capacities andpredominantly heterogenieous (double) employment and incomesource impose the necessity of one specific economic anddevelopment policy. Here, between the other, we stress the necessity ofimprovement in the sphere of servicing in agriculture, where inthe considerable part refers to agricultural extension serviceand transfer of scientific and professional inovations inproduction practice. Using experiences of developed countries, taking intoconsideration specific qualities of agrarian and productionstructure in Croatian agriculture, by making the conception ofextension service, we started from the suppositions thatagricultural extension service has to act autonomously withspecific hierarchic decision system, to establish republic centreand regional centres according to criterion of homogeneous conditions of agricultural production and financing ofagricultural service to be ensured from the government budgetmeans.

Summary: In the paper the authors give results of research ofcapital-output ratio influence on real and corespondentemployment regarding to technology intensity level in large- scale Croatian agriculture in the period from 1952 to 1990. The authors have established that increase intechnology intensity influenced on the lower growth of labourproductivity than it should be if employment was correspondent toproduction recources and to production. The main reason for this resulted from non-market system lack of economic logic inemployment generally, and so in the large-scale agriculturalenterprises, too. By decreasing of latent unemployment, consideringconsequences of war in Croatia and ownership transformation, thepaper foresees the changes in production, employment andtechnology intensity up to the 2000.

Summary: The tendency of export and export marketing was up tonow based less on the natural and comparative preferences ofCroatian agriculture, and more on interstate arrangements andagreements with some economic communities. The export of Croatian agriculture was not in function, nor it was acclimatizing tosonsumption on world market. For a long period it was the exportof surplus of agricultural products from unsatisfied and eternally "hungry" home market. Valuable raw materials wereexported at lowest prices. Export marketing is undeveloped, andthe research of foreign consumers, distribution and promotion forour unknown products is just in its beginning.

Summary: In order to determine aggrefate food demand of thepopulation as well as to determine demand of certain products andgroup of products in a country the balance-sheet method can beused. In this paper we present the balance between the production and consumption of eggs in Croatia for the period 1980-1990.Methology of making the balance is simple and well known. However, difficulties appear in colecting the necessary data. In the examined period egg production in Croatia, withthe exception of the year 1987, was not sufficient to satisfy thetotal demand. The degree of self-sufficiency increased from 90 %in 1981 to 100 % in 1987. Thus, this work is an attempt to make a precise balanceof an agricultural product using available indicators. We believethata this work be a contribution to making a complete balancefor the Republic of Croatia.

Summary: Production, supply, prices and consumption of most ofthe agricultural products fluctuate yearly. In this work we haveanalysed season a price fluctuations on Zagreb egg Market. It comes to disorders on egg market in Croatia atspring months, when peasants sell their production surpluses. Inthat period supply is considerably greater than demand, andprices fall even below cost price. It leads large egg producersinto a difficult position. At the other part of the year, supplyis lower than demand. Only large producers appear on market assuppliers. They use their monopolistic position and by highprices they compensate deficit from the first part of the year. In final part of the work we suggested measures foralleviation the seasonal fluctuations.

    Pages: from 31 to 32
    Language: hrvatski
Summary: Summary The aim of the research was to establish the economicand organizational justification of using the integrated cuttingin apple production in "Donja Reka" orchard in Jastrebarsko.Research data show that machine use in apple cutting decreaseusual labour spendings three times, and costs for over 50 %. Thewhole work process is fulfiled in shorter period of time withsmaller labour engagement and less physical efforts. Technological advantage of integrated cutting ismanifested in uniform cut and more complete impact on balance ofgrowth and fertility, and fruit quality regarding the cuttingexecution in two times. Usage of machine work in fruit trees cutting shows itseconomic justification and organizational favourableness inregard to money saving, labor productivity increase, and contribution to better organization and humanization of work.

Summary: On the basis of comparison of some technological and economicfactors of different ways of apple cutting fulfilment in"Čakovec" orchard, author concludes that cutting only by labour work requires the biggest labour spendigs and has thegreatest costs. Machine use in combination with manual work inapple cutting (integrated cutting) decreases costs for about 20 %that is HRD 207.000 per hectare. By integrated cutting the greatest working effects arereached , measured by cutted twig heap, and labour efficiency isincreased for over 50 %. The cutting only by machine use was found good from theeconomic and organizational aspects, considering the labourspendings and costs, but insufficiently good regarding the cuttedtwig heap.

Summary: High agricultural overpopulation of the Hrvatsko Zagorje and Prigorje region in Croatia vanishes due to increased deagrarization during the sixties. The number of part-time farms is constantly increasing, the additional sources of income are requested, the ageing of population increases, the farms are withering out, areas of uncultivated land are larger and the number of cattle smaller, the depopulation of the region is under way, etc. Change in political and economic system results in change of attitude towards family farms, private ownership and enterprise. Since agriculture as the sector of economy has no comparative advantages in this region of Croatia, its advancement needs reasonable justification accompanied by reconstruction of comprehensive rural development. This involves, with necessary modificationsin production structure, development of all supplementary agricultural producing activities, small industry, trades, services, and particularly tourism.

Summary: Socioeconomic position of rural woman is determined by mainfold functions she does in the family, household and on the farm. Therefore, the process of her social emancipation is more complex. This paper presents the results of survey about the social position and role of rural women, carried out in the village Martinšćina of Hrvatsko Zagorje region. Our hypothesis was that village as a social community influences the attitudes and thinkings about her own position. The research has confirmed it. Martinšćina is undeveloped village, so their attitudes and thinkings are more structural negative.

Summary: The authors analyze attitudes of the village youth in four villages in Croatia to general and professional education for farmers. Research was carried out in 1968, 1978, and 1988 as part of project on socio-economic change. Four groups of village youth were included: farmers, those employed outside the farm, secondary-school pupils and university students, and pupils of the eighth grade of primary school. In places where agricultural production is traditional, most respondents agree completely or partially that farmers do not need school education. On the contrary, under conditions of modern agricultural production almost nine tenths young people have a positive attitude to general and professional education for farmers. In relation to other groups of young people, woung farmers show pronounced conservativism both to general and to professional education, and this was the opinion of respondents from less developed villages, too.

Fundament of agricultural production in this area are family farms. In the paper we analysecharacteristics and use of family farming resources with aim tostress some of their peculiarity which are important in designing of the Croatian regional agricultural policy. The mainfeatures of family farms are extensive production, selfsuficienceand fragmentation of production resources. About 94% of farms useless then 3 ha of arable land, what is less then Croatianaverage. In Hrvatsko zagorje there is more cattle per surfaceunit and per inhabitant. Yields in crop production are lower thenstate average except in grass production and some fruit production. Production per capacity unit in livestock productionsis also lower then Croatian average.

Summary: Faster development of fruit growing was market by creating the modern orchards in the state sector in the early sixties. During the 1980s, the mass production on large socially-owned areas is gradually abandoned due to economic and organizational problem, and there is growing prevalence of smaller private orchards. Currently is indicated the need for restructuring and privatization of existing socially-owned orchards, and the necessary remedy of war damages resulting from the war which has been so crually imposed to the Republic of Croatia. Summary: Although the level of education of rural population has been in constant increase, it considerably lags behind the urban population education level. In urban areas the number of the illiterate is tree times lower, the number of those with incomplete primary education is twice lower, while the number of population with the secondary education is four times, and with higher and college education sven times that in rural areas. The schooling was the main anvnue out of the village and away from farming which caused depopulation of rural areas. During the period after the Secon World War a number of rural settlements with less than hundred inhabitants doubled. Since the development of rural areas and their revitalization must be supported by the concept of diversification of economic activities in rural areas into agriculture, small processing and industrial plants, crafts, tourism, services, etc. So conceived development strategy also encompasses the tailoring of the educational tasks and objectives to the lovels, from the farm household and estate, to the local community, municipality, region and the Republic, at all levels the adequate forms of formal and informal eucation shall be applied.

Summary: Faster development of fruit growing was market bycreating the modern orchards in the state sector in the earlysixties. During the 1980s, the mass production on largesocially-owned areas is gradually abandoned due to economic andorganizational problem, and there is growing prevalence ofsmaller private orchards. Currently is indicated the need forrestructuring and privatization of existing socially-ownedorchards, and the necessary remedy of war damages resulting fromthe war which has been so crually imposed to the Republic ofCroatia. The future development of fruit growing in the Croatiashould be based on a modern concept of orchard growing andproduction providing for higher adaptibility to fast changes inthe fruit market, input and labor market.

The income disparity between agricultural andnon-agricultural profession, unfavorable social and politicalstatus of farmers have all caused disbalance in employmentstructure of the members of family farms, affected theinsufficient level of capital equipment, and maguitude andstructure of agricultural production. The research resultsindicate that although the Croatian village suffered the"demographic collapse", there are still surplusses, namelyinsufficient employment of labor.

Three of the farms investigated were better according to the main farmcharacteristics than the average obtained for the region. Thevineyard production on these farms is emphasized since they grow vineyards on 0.5 ha to 1,58 ha or 4.4 to 15.4% of theirtotal farming area. The small farms justified inclusion ofvineyard production into their farming activities by the higher employment of family members, the higher total income obtained onthe farms and the fact that the farm fixed costs were partlyspread out to cover the vineyard production.

Summary: Numerous factors affect the stock-breedingdevelopment. The stock-feed production, expected to bothquantilatively and qualitatively fulfill the planned level of production, is one of the central factors. Stock-feed production (from 1973 till 1990), exceptthe maiz for fodder, is in decline. During the analyzed period, hay production decreased at an average annual rate of 0.76%,leguminous plants at 6.26% etc. The analysis revealed the feed deficiency on familyfarms, which is largely the result of the methodological approachto stock taking, as well as of the basic features of animalproduction in the country (farm size, cattle number, feedingstructure, etc.)

Summary: For Croatian territory it can be stressed the essential changes, as from the aspect of agriculture so as of rural areas, begin at late 1950s, that is not long ago. Tipically agrarian country, that Croatia has been under socioeconomic, spatial and other characteristics, transites on the way of industrial development. Rural areas empty by powerful removal, especially from undeveloped regions. Disertion the agriculture as profession and family farm as place of living and work significantly change the picture of rural areas. The most of production capacities in Croatian agriculture, starting with agricultural land, are family farm-owned. One of stressed negativities is loss of agricultural land surface. Croatian agriculture is one of small-scale farms, with considerable number of separated land parcels. Changing the economic policy at the beginning of 1990s in Croatia, transition on market economy and present institutional changes (privatization, transformation of ex-social firms) impose the radical revalorization of agricultural production resources.

Summary: In this paper we research the attitudes of the students towards the family farming. We are interesting in which proportion and condition motivated them to work on farm, in other words, which factors (independent variables) determined their professional aspirations. The research was carried out in 1993, at the Faculty of Agronomy in Zagreb. It encompassed the sample of 170 respondents, the whole student's group who have been at the end of the study. Until 1960s the students in Croatia who studied at the Faculty of Agronomy were the peasant children who mainly came from the villages. Today, situation is changed, because every the tenth of students have father who is the farmer; every the third hasn't own land and two thirds live in town. In regard of this fact, only 10.6% of respondents will return on family farms (11.8% are likely to do it). According to research the motivation to employ on own farm was expressed by 14.7% of respondents, but the most interest is turned to found own firm (41.8%).

Summary: In this paper we research the most successful farm which sought in the past decades for ways of development by adjustment its production structure. A deliberately chosen farm was researched by a monographic method. The meaning of a family, the capability of a farm manager (an owner) and social conditions upon the family farms development i.e. agricultural production is being stressed by a historical, sociological and economic analysis of a farm and socio-economic conditions and relations.

Summary: Pupil's cooperative societies in Croatia have a hundred year's tradition. In the past pupils' cooperatives have contributed to the building of pupils' productive working habits. In the sixties they were abolished and afterwards they started to be reintroduced. It was expected that the introduction of pupil's cooperatives will increase the number of enrollments in school for biotechnological occupations. This investigation unexpectedly contradicted this hypothesis. Therefore the quality of work in pupil's cooperatives has been included in the analysis and it showed that this quality influences the choice of schools for biotechnological occupations and not the introduction of pupils' cooperative by itself.

Summary: The share of the price of wheat (as the basicmill-raw material) in the average price of mill-product issignificant. In the analyzed period (1976-1990) the share of the price of basic raw material was 72,4 % (fco mill) of the price ofgrinding while the expenses of mills in the same period amounted27,6 %. During the analyzed period the parity was changing atfirst at the expense and later on to the benefit ofmill-products. Therefore, the parity of prices in 1976 was 1:1.58 and in 1982 itwas only 1:1.16. Since 1982 it is constantly increasing (to thebenefit of grinding) and in 1990 it was 1:1.97.

Summary: This paper is focused on agricultural policy, in the part involving prices and intervention in agriculture of the Republic of Croatia. Substantial changes which happened in 1991 in Croatia were political (independence) and economic (transformation) - all in war circumstances, they all have grave economic consequences. After the independence of the State of Croatia, in the beginning the most of the agricultural policy measures have been taken over from federal legislation, but during the time, they have been changed or new measures initiated by war circumstances were enacted, in attempt to maintain and support the agricultural production. The stability of production and market of agricultural and food products should be ensured by price system, market reserves, production support, credit system and export subsidies.
