Summary: Family farms with average small production capacities andpredominantly heterogeneous (double) employment and income source impose thenecessity of one specific economic and development policy. Here, between the other, we stress the necessity ofimprovement in the sphere of servicing in agriculture, wherein the considerable part refers toagricultural extension service and transfer of scientific and professional innovationsin production practice. Using experiences of developed countries, taking intoconsideration specific qualities of agrarian and production structure in Croatianagriculture, by making the conception of extension service we tarked from the suppositionsthat agricultural extension service has to act autonomously with specifichierarchic decision system, to establish republic and regional centres according to criterion ofhomogeneous conditions for agricultural production and financing of agricultural serviceto be ensured from the government budget meaus.

Summary: Production, Supply, Prices and Consumption of most of the agricultural products fluctuate yearly. In this work we have analysed season fluctuations of Prices on Zagreb Egg Market. To disorders on Egg Market in Croatia it comes at spring months, when peasants sell their production surpluses. In that period supply is considerably bigger than demand, and prices fall even below cost price. This leads big egg producers into a difficult position. At the other part of the year, supply is lower than demand. Only big producers appear on market as suppliers. They use their monopolistic position and by high prices they compensate deficit from the first part of the year. In final part of the work we suggested measures for alleviation the season fluctuations.

Summary: The tendency of export and export marketing was upto now based less on the natural and comparative preferences ofCroatian agriculture, and more on interstate arrangements andagreements with some economic communities. The export of Croatian agriculture was not in function of production, nor it wasacclimatizing to consumption on world market. For a long periodit was the export of surplus of agricultural products from unsatisfied and eternally "hungry" home market. Valuable rawmaterials were exported at lowest prices. Export marketing isundeveloped, and the research of foreign consumers, distributionand promotion for our unknown products is just in its beginning.

Summary: During the last decade the international trade offruit and vegetables has been characterized by comparatively fastincrease in value and lower level of protection as compared toother agricultural products. The highest increase in surplus wasrecorded in Spain, Netherlands and Turkey. Also, the rise inexport from the Southern hemisphere countries into high-developedmarkets of Europe and Northern America was very intense. Decisive factors of that expansion were better transportabilityand storage facilities, impact of multinational distributioncompanies and exceptional increase in export of Chile. The Mediterranean countries as a whole, although they are still onthe lead in world production and export, are loosing theirmarket share.

With legalization the commitment of critificial insemination inour stock-breeding, producers (distributors) and institutions for its applicationobtain market monopolistic position. Consequently, prices are not essential economic andmarketing instrument of affecting the demand (sale) of animal sperm, and calculated priceelasticity of demand is only the market reflection of legiseation the artificialinsemination in Croatia stock- breeding.

Summary: In order to determine aggregate food demand of the population as well as to determine demand of certain products and group of products in a country the balance- sheet method can be used. In this paper we present the balance between the production and consumption of eggs in Croatia for the period 1980-1990. Methodology of making the balance is simple and well known. However, difficulties appear in colecting the necessary datas. In the examined period egg production in Croatia, with the exception of the year 1987, was not sufficient to satisfy the total demand. The degree of self-sufficiency increased from 90% in 1981 to 100% in 1987. Thus, this work is an attempt to make a precise balance of an agricultural product using available indicators. We believe that this of agricultural products work bea contribution to making a complete balance for the Republic ofCroatia.

Summary: In the paper the authors give results of research ofcapital-output ratio influence on real and corespondent employment regarding to technologyintensity level in large- scale Croatian agriculture in the period from 1952 to 1990. The authors have established that increase in technologyintensity influenced on the lower growth of labour productivity than it should be ifemployment was correspondent to production recources and to production. The mainreason for this resulted from non-market system lack of economic logic inemployment generally, and so in the large-scale agricultural enterprises, too. By decreasing of latent unemployment, consideringconsequences of war in Croatia and ownership transformation, the paper foresces thechanges in production, employment and technology intensity up to the 2000.

Summary: Basic aim of this reserch was to determine self-sufficiency rate for most important foodstuffs in Croatia, i.e. to estabilish the Croatian food balance sheets. The balance sheets of particular products group of produsts were made for periods 1981-85 and 1986-90 and for years 1991 and 1992. High annual fluctations in domestic production and international trade alo nade us calculate averge self-sufficiency rate for several years. The results for the five-yera prewar period and the period 1991-92. are shown separately. According to the calculated selfsufficiency rates for the period 1986-90 Croatia showed surplus in food granis, mainz, beef and polutry meat, tobacco and wine. The consuption of other important foodstuffs was hogher than the domestic production, and the deficit was compensated for from import or/and from former interrepublic trade. Foodstuff self-sufficiency increase in the war-period (1991-92) was relatively small in spite of considerable drop in consuption the results of this reserch may be used as the basis in determinig short and long-terma aims and tasks of Croatian Agricultural Policy.

Summary: State of livestock production and size of husbandry farms have been analzsed, along with reasons which cuased such state. Situation that has been established makes it impossibile for livestock production in Croatia to cope with international competition; therefore reducing of protection measures to conditions of GATT or EU will present livestock production in Croatia with a difficult process. Changing of present situation will be slowed down by impossibility of creating domestic capotal for investing in enlargement of farms and increase of their productivity.

Summary: In this work we have analysed seasonal fluctuations of Prices onZagreb Egg Market. In the spring, when peasants sell theirproduction surplus it comes to disorders on Egg Market. Thisleads big egg producers into a difficult position. At the otherpart of the year, supply is lower than demand. Big egg producers use their monopolistic position and by high prices theycompensate deficit from the first part of the year. In analysis of fluctuations of egg prices, we used Method ofgroup data, Seasonal indices Method and Model Method for analysisand prognosis of seasonal fluctuations. With some additionalinformations, created Model can be useful for prognosis of eggprice movement. In final part of the work we suggested measuresfor alleviation the seasonal fluctuations.

Summary: The study researches the impact of capital resources uponthe level of actual and correspondent employment concerning the level of capitaltechnology intensity. It is established that increase in capital technologyintensity resulted in lower labour productivity growth in relation to correspondent.Disposable capital use per labour unit was also lower. On of the reasons lies in the latentemployment on an average of 22,6 %. Eliminating the established latent unemployment havingsuggested inputs, current war-time events and ownership transitions, concludingspeculations of this study foresee on average increase of output in larger-scale enterprises inCroatia agriculture of 2.59 % until the year of 2.000.

Summary: Croatia, as the part of Mediterranean region (stillglobally the most important production and export region) hasnumerous comparative advantages in production of a number ofquality sorts of fruit and vegetables which has not been used asnearly as it could have been in earlier trade. Just opposite, from the long-term net-exporter, during eighties Croatia hasturned into net-importer of products from the fruit and vegetablesector. The future possibilities of Croatian export of fruit andvegetables are discussed with regard to increase in covering ofimport consumption by domestic production, and higher efficiency of exports through supply in tourism (the so called "silent"export).

Summary: The most important indicators of livestock production efficiencz in the developed contries of market economz ahve shown considerable changes in the analysed period from 1950 to 1990. The changes in Croatia did not resemble the trends in developed countries: therefore the situation in livestock production in Croatia is lagging behind rather than improving. Specialized breeding companies which only produce breedingclass, semen and embryos have infuluence on organization of breeding methods and ways of realizing breeding programmes demand extremalez large market; therefore animal breeding and selection activites can be successful only if they are integrated into the system world market. The development of animal breeding taking place in Croatia can be expected to be under the influence of the following two groups of factors: 1. The introduction of qputs and import taxes on breeding material from the third countries, followed by Covermment regulation of domestic animal breeding and formation of associations of animal breeders; 2. The process if integration into animal breeding in the world, followed by the development of free enterprise and interaction between breeding companies trom developed countries and companies in Croatia. The importance of these two groups of factors will vary due to a species of domestic animal. While the most liberal approach and the highest dependence on animal breeding from abroad can be expected in polutry production, Government measures are to be expected in cattle breeding.

Summary: Results of comparative analysis indicate considerablylower partipation fruit and vegetables in the whole agriculturalexport (as well as partipation in agricultural production) in Croatia compared to other Mediterranean countries. The lack oforganization in domestic market (no market institutions, statemonopolies on organization of trade channels, neglect of "cost principles" in export and similar) has caused lagging ofthose production sectors and weakening of their competitivenessin export. On the other hand, the favorable conditions for purchase of fruit and vegetables from import in late 1980sresulted in the uncontrolled deterioration in the country'sbalance of payment, and the record deficit in trade of agricultural products in 1990 has mostly affected this group ofproducts.
