Summary: Pile - Kono tract had from the end of l5th century a
character of summer - villa's area, during l8th century it was garden
suburb of Dubrovnik and today it is residential section grown into
gardens. The former presence of numerous well arranged gardens designed
for leisure gives to this tract character of historical garden zone.
Processes of numerous remodelings were taking place at this area during
last two centuries. So it is necessary to research existing garden spaces
tending to record and classificate all present garden shaping values with
a view of their protection and presentation.

Research goals: The aim of research is to look over as completely as
possible, register, concisely describe and document the garden spaces of
this spacious historical garden zone, encircling very exposed area close by
historical nucleous of Dubrovnik which is mainly unexplored. The results of
research will contribute to evaluation of multi-layered garden inheritance,
its permanent and more effective protection. Also, they will serve as the
base for all planning processes and space arrangements at Pile-Kono tract
with a purpose of more appropiate use and presentation of this valuable
part of Dubrovnik's inheritance. Other information about the project.
