Summary: This project will research the phenomena of the transition
period occurring after the collapse of the centrally-planned
(non-entrepreneurial) economic system in communist countries. The emphasis
will be on systemic changes and economic policies of the government, but
due consideration is given to structural constraints in the post-communist
economies. Aspects of the transition phenomena in Croatia will be
particularly examined. Three domain of research are especially relevant in
this context - the role of the state in the economy during the transition
period, the transformation of the social (state) ownership and - related to
the special case of Croatia - economic aspects of the dissolution of a
multinational federation.
Keywords: Transition, transition crisis, macroeconomic policy, role of the state, privatization, entrepreneurship, budget, public finance, structural adjustments, post-war economics, economic restoration, institutional changes.
Research goals: There are two basic aims of the research project.
First it aspires to incorporate the Croat scientific capabilities into the
world scientific endeavor within the field of transition economics. The
comparative analysis of the transition phenomena in the countries in
Central and Eastern Europe should help lay a foundation for solving the
economic problems of transition. Secondly, by specific research concerning
the problems of transition in Croatia the Croatian government should be
directly helped in finding the relevant solutions concerning the economic
system and economic policies. Other information about the project.
