Summary: The author thinks that conciliation should be considered
usefuland justifiable on the grounds of its characteristics andadvantages
in comparison with other ways of peaceful settling ofdisputes. A
conciliatory forum (a single person or a commission)is constituted by the

Summary: In the continental shelf the Republic of Croatia has
thesovereign rights to explore and exploit natural resources ipsofacto,
i.e. by the mere effect of being a costal state. Thepossibility for the hot
pursuit of a ship to start, in somecases, on the sea above the continental
shelf is a novelty towhich the author draws special attention. The
establishment ofsafety zones around artificial islands, installations and
devicesin the continental shelf, rather than imposed imperatively,should be

Summary: The new Convention on Rescue of 1989 provides a payment of
awardaccording to the classic principle of "no cure - no pay", whereasan
introduction of elements of skill and effort to prevent ordiminish damages

Summary: The Code of Practice IHA-FUAAV, 1991 is a code of
international business customs that come into being in relations between
travel agencies and hotels in the course of the conclusion and performance
of hotel services contracts. According to the special Code rules, an agency
contract for hotel services should be understood to include every contract
by which a hotel operator undertakes the obligation toward the agency to
provide for the guest, the agency's client, accomodation and accessory
services against compensation, and to pay the stipulated commission.
Finally, because of the different subject-matter of such contracts
(provision of services to individual guest or group of guests), the Code
contains varied provision relating to the formation, performance and
termination of contracts. Most of the special provisions contained in the
Code relate to the termination of contract and the consequences of untimely
cancellation, non-utilization or partial utilization of service, and
especially premature departure of guests. The Code has undoubtedly a
considerable significance. The systematized and unified customary rules
incorporated in it impart to contracts formed between travel agencies and
hotels more clarity, certainty and above all the necessary legal security
both for contracting parties and for travelers as users of hotel services.

Summary: The paper examines the relationship between knowledge and
analytical skills in the domain of textual studies. Examples
are used to show how some modes of discourse, especially
literary and legal, involve not only knowledge of conceptual
and linguistic categories and the relevant subject area but
also analytical reasoning because of their elliptical and
intertextual nature. Knowledge is a prerequisite as well as a
consequence of cognitive dynamics and the associated language
and analytical skills.

Summary: The 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea comprises a
comprehensive and sofisticated system of peaceful settlement of the
disputes. Within the wide variety of means and procedures it provides for
the State Parties, the arbitration is welcome institution as it allows a
wider autonomy to the parties in selecting the arbitrators and determining
their powers, in constituting the Arbitral Tribunal and defining the rules
of procedure.
It is especially significant, and above all useful, the decision on
constituting a Special Arbitral Tribunal. Therewith has been accepted the
view on absolute usefulness of involving the experts from various fields of
sea related human activities in settling and deciding on the disputes.

Summary: An unquestionable development in accomplishing the
international law system for peaceful settlement of disputes has been
achieved during the Third UN Conference on the Law of the Sea.
The dispute settlement system, created in the 1982 UN Convention on the Law
of the Sea, is extremely sofisticated and its value may be truly assessed
only after its mechanism becomes operative.
The Convention provides the State with a wide variety of dispute settlement
means. In addition to maintaining the International Court of Justice at
Haag, the Convention provides legal grounds for creating and oparating a
new forum - The International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea with primary
assignment to settle the disputes arising from application or
interpretation of the Convention.
