Summary: The procedure, analysis and interpretation of the survey
coveringa sample of construction workers from croatian companies engagedon
construction project in Germany is thoroughly presented in thepaper. The
principal aim of the survey was to empiricallydetermine and valorize
factors that make croatian workers muchmore productive when working in
other countries. The surveyconfirmed some hypoteses but also pointed to
some factors thatwere not given adequate attention in earlier studies.

Summary: Intense industrialization lately taking place in
civilengineering may be compared with the identical process in themajority
of industrial branches some hunderd years ago. Acomparative analysis of
this process can explain the fact thatpresently a Tayloristic concept of
prganization prevalis in civilengineering, just as it dominated in other
fields during theinitial phases of technological development, these
othersbranches of activity encountered seriousorganizational
problems, painstakingly discovering solutions. Civil engineering will soonbe
confronted with the same problem and should promptly startappying proven
solutions to avoid unnecessary strayng andmistakes. The purpose of this
study is to point out thesesolutions.

Summary: The results of this research have confirmed ou working
hypoteses, i.e. woking conditions do not improve, nor does job satisfaction
increase, with increased technical-technological complexity in the
construction industry, but the centralization of the decision-making
process increases, which means that the inhuman consequences of the
division of labour are not compensated for by a redistribution of power
within the organization. Our initial dilemma regarding the emancipatory or
destructive role of technological development has been solved
pesimistically by this research, because there ae more arguments in favour
of the dehumanizing omplications.
