Summary: The aim of the project was to investigate presentday academic publications (master of science theses, doctoral dissertations, specialist theses and other monographic semipublications or "grey literature" written to obtain an academic degree at the University of Zagreb) especially the standard layout of documentary and information elements such as abstracts, keywords, and references. The non-conventional carriers of data such as microfiche, microfilm, diskette, worm disc or similar had to be examinated in order to design the most convenient carrier of information with the aim to promote communication of academic scientific and professional work in Croatia. Slight efforts were made to modernize issuing of university serial publictions, especially the University bulletin giving abstracts of theses in Croatian and English languages, as a valuable source for other repackaging services (classic and electronic). Advantages and disadvantages of microform usages could not be seroiusly investigated, taking into account selective field blocks and the nature of appendices (graphic and pictorial) in order to achieve better dissemination of theses, because of the lack of funds and the specialists' engagement in saving war damaged valuable archival collections. An explanatroy article including Code of principles to design bibliographic and documentary elements of the mentioned semipublications will be published within the scope of the new issue of the University Bulletin.

Research goals: A systematic contiunous updating of classic and electronic carriers of scientific information, primarily university semipublications, including standards and regulations in order to improve their formal and scientific value and to communicate them through national (university abstract bulletin, scientific bulletin) and internatnational media, like Dissertation Abstracts International, and to make them available (including distribution, storage, retireval, search, primary text access etc).
