Summary: Tensions between church hierarchy and theology don't have
tofinish with conflict. Council tried to direct them in directionof
dialogue. Postcouncil period shows that dialogue is possiblein church
reality. The core of the faith is subject as well asdoctrinal limit of

Summary: Having differentiated between the theological philosophical
andscientific meanings of atheism, this paper attempts to answerwhether or
not atheistic ethics do exist. Differences andsimilarities between Marxist
and Soviet forms of atheism areanalyzed and coherently presented, and it is

peace. The precouncil theology allowing justwars ("de bello iusto") is
replaced at this council by a newtheology demanding avoidance of all war
(de bello vitando") whichis further extended by the succeeding popes to
include theChristian ethic of peace ("de pace aedificanda").
