Summary: The Book "How to understand the Holy Scripture" of Flacius
"Clavis..." (1567), dealing with Flacius' theory of method and of the
understanding of the Scriptures. One of the most read theological writings
of the 17th and 18th centuries, this text was important for the development
of biblical exegesis and hermeneutics as atheory of understanding. The
Latin text was newly edited and translated into Croatian. The introduction
discusses the basic intention of Flacius' hermeneutics (the autonomy and
exactitude of interpretation and understanding) and describes the history
of the reception of Flacius' ideas. The commentary offers the influence of
rhetoric and dialectic on Flacius' hermeneutic.
