Summary: Between the Late Middle Age and the beginnings of the
Modern Worls the Croatian society was facing from ca. 1450 till ca. 1750
the tremendous influence of anti-Ottoman wars and in general Ottoman rule.
Here we stress two decisive centuries and the symbolical value of the years
1493, 1593 and 1699 (the battles of Krbava and Sisak, peace of
Karlowitz/Srijemski Karlovci). The focus of scholarly interest is
represented by problems of (discontinuity, and the transformation of social
structures in particular (nobility, peasantry, town-dwellers), with special
regard to their importance for the modern Croatian nation-integrating
processes.
