Summary: The church of St.Quirinus is a two storey building
connected tothe cathedral of Krk by means of a huge arch.It falls within
thegroup of Palatine chapels and also closely resembles the
GermanDoppelkapelle.The church of St.Quirinus served as a Palatinechapel
for the bishop of Krk.It was built at the end of the 12thcentury for bishop
Ivan, who encouraged building activities onthe island of Krk.Its second
function is more difficult todetermine.However, the large arch,conected
with the cathedralshows that initialy it might served as the western
gallery forthe princes of Krk.In later records the church is mentioned
asthe portico of he cathedral, serving for various purposes.

Summary: Documents and stylistic analyses date the Collegiate Church
ofSt.Mary's Assumption in ancient Pag back tho the early 14thct. Its
construction has been brought into connection with thatof the church in
Pag, said to have been put up in honour of theCollegiate Church.The floor
plan of the building was taken overdirectly from the Zadar and reflects
the traditionalism of thatmilieu, and the lack of variety in form was due
to economicrestrictions in the Pag community.The purity and strictness
ofthe volume can be accounted for by the acceptance of Franciscanand
Dominican architectural norms,but it also reflects the strictprinciples of
the life of the Collegiate Church.

Summary: The church reform in the eastern Adriatic produced its
firstresults when Archbishop Lovro was appointed to the archbishopricof
Split,and Bishop Ivan to Trogir.The result of the endavours tointroduce
church reform,following the assemblies in Split,waserection of new
convents.The new church architecture reflectedthe liturgical changes that
the church reform brought to theAdriatic region.The morphplogy of the
three-nave basilica hadbeen drawn up at an earlier date, influenced by
wider Eurpoeancontext.Thus, this architecture in the Adriatic region can
beseen as international early Romanesque architecture unlike thegroups of
early Romanesque Dalmatina churches.

Summary: On the basis of the morphological elements it can be
concluded that the shrine of St.John's Church in Rab was built in the
12thcentury, when an ambulatory was constructed within the earlyChristian
apse, when the interior arches over the apse were modified, the southern
flanking portal redone and a belfry with an oratory-reliquary put up on the
ground floor. The workestablishes the orgins of the oratory in the crypts
on the islandof Rab.The location of belfry alongside the shrine
isconsidered,as well as oratory-reliquary that was put on theground floor.

Summary: The methodology of research into pre-Romanesque art in
theeastern Adriatic is discused.It is established that in the 9thcentury
the eastern Adriatic did not represent a single, unifiedartistic space and
that the architecture of the State of Croatiaand that of the Byzantine
theme of Dalmatia differed.Thedifferences reflect the different liturgical

Summary: The south Istrian group of monuments of the early
Medievalplastic arts is the most numerous one and formally the mostvarious
one.It has been mostly preserved in fragments wichdisplay different degrees
of stone-carving quality. With regardto dating, the stone fragments can be
divided into twosignificant groups (according to their number):the
"Byzantine"group of the 6th and 7th ct.,and pre-Romanesque group of the
9thand 10th ct.Tfhe south Istrian group of monuments belongs to theample
stock of Istrian early Medieval plastic arts, alhtough inits development it
shows certain specific features in relation tothe other peninsular groups
regarding more strongly and deeplyexpressed continuity of the late Antique

Summary: This article covers different types of belfries constructed
inIstriaduring the Romanesque period.The belfry mounted on the axisof the
facade is discussed and its development analyzed frompre-Romanesque
roots.Along with the free-standing belfrry-campanile,and belfry propped
against the flank or facadeof the church,there is also the belfry over the
shrine,asexemplified by St.George's churrch between Zavrsje
andGroznjan,wich is the southermost example of this particular typeof
belfry in Europe.The article attemps to explain its orgin byrefeferring to

Summary: The exsisting material confirms the fast that the
ancientmonuments were bulit in compliance with the art trends of
RomanAntiquity. The main polarities , Hellenistic-Roman naturalism andthe
preference for non plastic, linear sculpture are found in theworks of
Istrian artists and stone mason. Most of the works,however, testify to
the harmonization of these trends, so thatthese modes of expression
becoming closely interwoven. Inmonuments of Roman sculpture found in
Istria the localcharacteristics are far less pronaunced than in those
found inthe more distan provinces of the Roman Empire.

Summary: With the passage of time medieval Šibenik has
experiencednumerous transformations, the most radical and the
mostdestructive of which are the more recent ones. The most
obvioustransformations are those on the "face" of the town itself, thatis
on its shore front. "Modern" urbanistic and architecturalinterventions
impose their own style without any respect for theolder buildings, and by
their aggressiveness they degrade thehistorical structures of high quality.
Newcomers to the townestablish the acquired criteria in the new
environment,introducing their own rules and habits. Traffic
parametersdestroy the little that is left on the Mediterranean spirit inthe
town below Šubićevac. The regulation of the shore strip,which is being
conducted under the control of urbanists andconservators, has definitely
worn off the authentic image of thetown. But, the greatest danger for
Šibenik and its inhabitantspresents the grave environmental crises,
provoked by dangerouspollution from the Šibenik industry, which is
concentrated inthis condensed town.

researching architecture of that part of Croatia and emphasized value of

Summary: The paper deals wih a group of the stone sculptures hithero
asigned chronologically tho the early medieval sculpture known as belonging
to the "transitional" or "intermediate" period extending from the end of
6th to the end of the 8th century. In morphological terms it was marked by
relatively poor carving skills, low relief, modestly simple decoration of
the stone surface, while in type it represented a continuation of early
Byzantine motifs. In research this group figures as a series of stones with
various technical and typological characteristics wich for the most part
are connected with the erlier period of developed sculptural activity of
the 6th century.

Summary: The paper deal with 25 reliefs from Roman stone coffins
from Istria that are relatively unknown to scholars.For the most part they
belong to a simple group with representations of geni, but they also
idnclude types of coffin with themes from classical and early Christian
iconography. Their importance lies in the symbiosis of eastern and western
artistic culture within the art of the Roman state between the second and
fourth century. It stresses the signifance of this group of monuments in
the context of classical sculptzure on the eastern coast of the Adriatic
and also explains the Romanisation of the Istrian peninsula and its
connection with the mainstream of cultural and aesthetic ideas of the
Imperial period. In an aesthetic sense the opposition and interpretation
of the Hellenistic and Roman visio, on the one hand, and the flat, linear
features of thes4e monuments , on the other, is underlined. The Roman
sarcophagi, display the familiar forms of Roman Imperial art, often
modified to a smaller degree than such works in more remote provincies.

Summary: The autors who wrote about it consider its present
apperance as a result of long and gradual development between 14th and 16th
century. Despite earlier hypothesis, the stylistic analysis of some parts
of the architectural decoration and re-interpretation of the historic
sources brought the author to the conclusion that the entire building was
erected during the renevalcampaign undertook in 1527. during the office of
a podestate of Bale A. Bondumier. Such consideration is the result of
attentive analysisof typological, morphological, and formal characteristics
of the whole building and the smaller parts of two "quadriphorae" in
particural.The establishing of general dates in the development of
venetian capitael with rosette, wich appears here on the dividing columns
of quadriphorae, is of utmost importance for such an analysis. Finaly , the
author points out the numerous similar, explicity belated solutions in
Istria, commeting the problem of the relation between the tradition and
innovation in the light of provincional, marginal artistic activity.

Summary: The study, based principaly on a morphological
classification, dealswith types of late medieval capitals and identifies
seven types and several subtypes on the evidence of the some 200 examples,
most of wich have not been investigated hithero. The proposed typologz
incorporates the whole body of material, so that each individual example is
analysed in terms of its morphological, thematic, cronological and
stylistic features. Apart from the crucial problem of dating, in the
solution of wich the autor utilises comparisons of items from the eastern
andnorthern Adriatic coast, the study as whole illustrates the special,
distinctly provincialized features of the Istrian production of stone
capitals. From the 13.th to the 16.th ct. Istria was heavly dependent on
influences emanating from Venice, and there are only a few instances that
suggest affinities with another, Central European arthistic sphere
