Research goals: The research up to now has defined the network of
the Japodicfuneral cult. It has proposed a reconstruction of the course
ofthe Japodic funeral ritual and has analysed some of the basicelements
within the structure of the Japodic beliefs in theafterlife. Due to a
shortage of financial support and the circumstancesbrought about by the
war, work on the project has not beencompleted. As I stated when first
announcing this project, itwould be necessary to investigate the funeral
cult in otherAdriatic cultures from the I mill.BC., especially those in
Istriaand in the cultures on the western Adriatic seaboard
(Veneto,Bologna, Picenum, Daunia). During 1994-1995 the project has
established the frameworks for an interpretation of Daunian funeral
ideology which gives certain parameters for investigating other Adriatic
funeral ideologies on the periphery of the Greek civilization. The
project has not been completed. The results, due to a situation of war and
because of meagre financial aid, have been partial. There was no way to
engage foreign comarative archeological findings and the relevant
publications. The project ought to be continued. Other information about the project.
