period asthe seventies did, which heralded the entrance of
postmodernisminto our architecture. Some tendencies, which started in
theseventies, like structuralism, ended in the early andmid-eighties and by
the late eighties postmodernism andregionalism started to acquire some new

Title: Sacral Spaces in Comparison to Middle European
Architecture

Summary: Through comparative analysis of architectural
composition ofcertain achievements one can follow the spreading and the
changesof architectural thought. Not only in time but also in regard tothe
cultural space of different countries. The vertical andhorizontal
comparisons of basic morphological and typologicalreferences of the
architectural compositions can analytically bemost precisely followed on
the examples of sacral and memorialcentralized spaces that are based on the
round or multi angularforms. By comparative analysis one comes to the
conclusion thatwithin a relatively short period of time, several compatible
andrelatively divergent models interfere: Lange-Wagner;Stuller-Fabiani;
Plečnik; Klenze-Schoenthal; Jardin-Schoenthalarchitectural compositions
dealing with centralized sacral spacesof round base. The existence of a
precise typologically andmorphologically defined academic models of
architecturalcompositions yet still flexible enough has made possible
aconstant maintenance of qualitative, high leveled architecturalthought.
The next immediate consequence is a simple and wellbalanced transfer of
acquired knowledge within a compactmid-European cultural space. Within the
contemplated comparativestream, the artistic achievement of architects
Josip Vancaš,Vjekoslav Bastl, Josip Plečnik are a natural and integral part
ofthe architectural mid-European cultural memory.
Keywords: Comparative analysis, morphological and typological references, architectural composition, mid-European cultural space.
