Summary: The project was conceived as a history of Croatian
literature in monographic form. It involves two lines of research: a)
monographs on writers and on the problems of Croatian literature and b)
monographs on scholars dealing with Croatian literature.

Research goals: The aim of the project is to write and publish a
series ofmonographs within the scope of two collections: 1. monographs
onwriters and problems in Croatian literature and 2. critical portraits of
Croatian Slavists. The first collection is ahandbook of data on and
insights into the major names and phenomena of Croatian literature. Each
book contains a study on awriter or a problem, a selection from previous
criticism on thesubject, the basic bibliography and references. Thus the
readeris provided with comprehensive information on the scope ofcritical
thought on a particular literary phenomenon. The secondcollection has been
conceived as a series of books on the majorrepresentatives of Croatian
Slavic studies, from Gaj and Jagic toBarac, Kombol and Jonke. The
portraits are intended to be bothinformative and scholarly. The focus is
on the contribution givenby a particular scholar to Croatian and
international Slavicstudies. Each volume contais a bibliography of the
Slavist andthe major literature about him. When it is finished, the
serieswill represent a unique history of Croatian Slavic studies.
