Summary: In all post-war research of the 20th century Croatian
literature the period 1940/41-1945 was neglected, i. e. that part of
Croatian literature which was realised following the middle-class literary
tradition as the contrast to the left orientated literature which
designated for revolutionary changes in society as well as in literature.
In this way all Croatian literature histories published after 1945 till
today have remained incomplete and in this segment untrustworthy because a
lot of valuable and important literary creators have been avoided and so
they fell in oblivion. The project will offer a complete critical look on
this period of Croatian literature.
Keywords: Croatian literature, Croatian theatre, Croatian literature 1941-1945, traditional and revolutionary tendencies in Croatian literature, Croatian literature of Independent State of Croatia, Krleža, Budak, Bonifačić
Research goals: The goal of this research project is to fill up the
existing gap and to show the history of 20th century Croatian literature in
its entire complexity of different ideas and aesthetic pluralism.
Periodicals and all important creative individualities will be explored,
the value of their works will be judged together with all accompanying
cultural activities (publishing, theatre, public activities of writers
etc.). Other information about the project.
