Summary: From the point of view of pedagogical practice the final system of errors could be the most interesting one because it constitutes the ultimate 'foreign accent' of speakers of a community who have mastered a foreign language fluently and have acquired the system of phonological oppositions to the point that they do not substitute foreign phonemes with the ones belonging to their mother tongue, still, their realization of speech sounds originates from a different articulatory base.

Summary: Keywords which are considered to be 'free words' in the field of documentation in information science accompanied by 'descriptors' which are considered to be 'fixed words' are used for database searches in a given field. In this paper three methods for obtaining keywords from the abstract are offered.

    Meeting: Primijenjena lingvistika danas
    Held: from 04/15/94 to 04/16/94
Summary: The author examines the correlation between self-report and results on oral and written comprehension tests on a sample of subjects who sepak Croatian as their first language and English as a foreign language. Significant but low correlations were found between self-report and objective tests results.

    Held: from 05/18/95 to 05/20/95
Summary: Formant-defined English vowel space of native speakers are compared with that of 1st and 4th year Croatian students of English. The results suggest that (1) native speakers' vowel space is broader than the students' vowels space and (2) 4th year students show a tendency to broaden their vowel space and thus approach the native speakers with respect to formant pattern.

Proceedings title: English Studies in Croatia
    Language: engleski
    Place: Zagreb
    Year: 1995
    Pages: from 11 to 11
    Meeting: Anglistika u Hrvatskoj
    Held: from 05/18/95 to 05/20/95
Summary: The main purpose of abstracting is to construct a representation of published items in a form suitable for inclusion in some type of database. For this purpose, abstracts should be formally well organized, topically relevant, and linguistically adequately verbalized. In this respect, language should be viewed less from the linguistic perspective, in the sense of grammar, and more as a complex mental activity verbally realized by a text.

Meeting: The 10th European Symposium on Language for Special Purposes
    Held: from 08/29/95 to 09/01/95
Summary: Access to information for users needs to be readily available. In this sense an abstract has a market value and knowledge of formal organization, topical relevance, information adequacy and language acceptability will be a 'must' for every potential database user. A scale for measuring abstract acceptability was devised and the results discussed.

    Authors:
    Desnica-Žerjavić, Nataša (9406)
    Language: francuski
Summary: In the first the basic principles and notions of general phonetics are presented. The deviations from the standard speech and comparative analysis of many different languages follow. In the second part the French phonetic system is presented along with the definition and the distrubution of phonemes, the specificities of French prosody and the anomalies of the system due to the incoherence of graphic symbols and etymological characteristics of the lexis. In the third part a system of phonetic correction is expounded, based on the principles of the verbotonal system and the knowledge of proprioceptive sensations experienced during the emission of the speech sounds.
