Summary: A team of eminent scholars gathered round the project will do research on the connections between Croatian literature and Italian literature from the Middle Ages down to the present time, focusing especially on the systematic gathering and critical evaluation of "Italica" in Croatian literature and "Croatica" in Italian literature.

Research goals: The goal of the research is to establish precisely the state of the art of critical studies in the domain under investigation, toopen up new horizons and to analyze in a scholarly manner the hitherto unknown or little known phenomena of conscious or unconscious correspondences, congruences or departures from expected parallelisms on the chronological and typological levels, within the complexes of models of taste, manners, poetics and ideas. The research results will be published in three collections of papers on CROATIAN AND ITALIAN LITERARY CONNECTIONS - Volumes V, VI and VII - the publication of which is planned in the forthcoming period (1995-1997). These collections already have a positive tradition and rhythm of publication (Volumes I-IV from 1990-1994) and have been favourably received in the media and scholarly periodicals. We expect this to be a contribution to Croatian and Italian literary history and comparative studies, leading to better mutual knowledge and understanding.
