The monophonic melodies belongmainly to the Central-European repertoire of the church song;part of them could be identified as belonging to the hymnodicrepertoire of the Middle ages, the others are of new date andpossibly belong to the folk musical tradition. The tunes arenotated with Metz notation without metrum signs and rests. Theymostly have Croatian texts (original or free translations fromthe Latin). Summary: The images of the folk music from the 19th c. belong to differentstylistic trends of this time. Among them we find romanticidealization, exotics, the "biedermeier"-idyll, searching therealistic and characteristic aspects of the music making on thisinstruments, as well as examples of the political arttransmitting ideological messages. On the depictions of "gusle",a folk instrument typical for the South-European Slavic nations,we can follow different approaches of the artists to the votiveof the gusle-player: from objective documentaristic depictions(travelogues, works of cultural-historical character) to theimages which are stylizing the motive of the gusle-player andinterpreting it as a symbol of the national and South-Slavictraditions. Thus this motive develops into an independent toposwhich also in music has its corresponding treatment.

Summary: Vergil's text "Dulces exuviae" from the IVth part of the "Aeneas"was set to music during the 16th c. several times. Galluscomposed Didona's farewell lamento as a five-part madrigal(published 1596. in the collection "Moralia"). On this examplethe function and interaction of different expressive means weredescribed: the articulation of the text by means of the cadencesand contrasting in setting and sound, the declamation andrhythmics, the melodies and connection of motivic material, aswell as the means of the interpretation of text. The result showsa ballance between autonomous music and music as a means ofexpression, a ballance which could be regarded as characteristicfor Gallus' art.

Summary: The comparative analysis of the compositions on same latin textsby Heinrich Schtz (1585-1672) and Ivan Lukačić (1585-1648) whosework was influenced by the contemporary italian music, shows thatboth composers created works of pronounced individuality withinthe frame of the early baroque vocal style. Meeting: Glazbeni barok i zapadni Slaveni u kontekstu europskog kulturnog zajedništva
    Held: from 12/07/91 to 12/12/91
Summary: The investigation of the research about this subject showed, thatin the music of the Viennese classics (J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart andL. van Beethoven) there are vew undoubtedly documented quotationsof folk tunes. Some studies have been marked by the historicalviews of the 19th c. and tried to interprete the whole problemfrom the standpoint of the national cultures. This is the reasonwhy some of the folk melodies in the works of the Vienneseclassics were recognized and identified as Croatian, Hungarian orBohemian. In the manyfoldness of the folk music inspirationswhich marked the music of the Viennese classics we recognize therichness of the ethnic, cultural and linguistic plurality of theviennese society in the time of Joseph II.
