Summary: The definition of the routes for the future Adriatic
Highwayalong the Adriatic coast has given rise to a great number
ofdiscussions, dilemmas, conflicting interests and attitudes,considering
the two alternatives of the route, i.e. the coastaland the continental one.
Since the "classical" methods (primarilyfeasibility studies), have yielded
almost the same results forboth alternatives, the government (the road
managementauthorities) have decided upon the application of
multicriteriaanalysis for finding the optimal alternative of the
highwayroute.

Summary: This paper presents the possibility of using methods
ofmulticriterional analysis for estimating nad ranking pollution incertan
urban and suburban zones and along the coast, based onmonitoring air and
sea quality. Direct interpretation of thedegree of pollution on the
geographical maps, using geographicalinformation system techology makes
possible on-line use of thissystem for the needs of the city authorities so
that decisions onwether or not to ban swimming or reduce certain
industrialactivities can be made. Thus it is conceptually suitable to DSS.

Summary: The study examines the total heavy metal level and
theirdistribution in soil from Kaštela Bay. The study area is
denselypopulated and impacted by industrial and urban pollution
andagricultural technology. Total of 182 top-soil samples wereanalyzed for
"total" Cd, Pb, Zn and Cu content. Spatialinterpolation was made by Kriging
method and plotted using GISsoftware. These isoline maps provide a useful
catalogue of thebaseline information on the distribution of potential toxic
andnutritionally essential trace elements, and, at the same time,evidence
of regional contamination due to various humanactivities.

Summary: The use of neural network for valuation of antropogenic
soils isdescribed. Soil suitability is defined as a function
ofcompatibility between soil properties and fiziological plantdemands, and
it is given by semantic estimation. In suchclassification, it is not
possible to define precise classlimits, so the principles of fuzzy set
theory is applied. Testingand application of trained neural network shows
that this methodis attractive for knowledge base as a part of
pedologicaldecision support system.
