Summary: X-ray diffractometry, F.T.i.r. analysis,
cation-exchangecapacity, and solubility were used to characterize the
effect ofball milling on zeolite A, zeolite X, and synthetic
mordenite.Changes of i.r.spectra during the ball milling show that a lossof
crystallinity, a decrease of cation-exchange capacity, and anincrease of
solubility were caused by breaking of Si-O-Si andSi-O-Al bonds in the
zeolite structure.Based on such aconclusion, the kinetic equation of the
amorphization process wasderived and evaluated.
Keywords: Zeolites (A, X and synthetic mordenite), loss of crystallinity (amorphization), ball milling, kinetic equation of amorphization process, X-ray diffraction, i.r. spectroscopy, cation-exchange capacity, solubility.

Summary: Broadening of the resistive transition of sintered
GdBa2Cu3O(7-x) superconductor has been studied varying the measuringcurrent
over the range of five orders of magnitude. The observedweel-defined
branching points in the resistive transitioncoincide with the quasi-Ohmic
saturation of V-I curves and scalewith the average grain size. The results
suggest the validity ofa simple percolation model for dissipation in
systems whoseglobal superconductivity is realized by Josephson coupling of
thesuperconducting grains. A common origin og structured
resistivetransition, observed in many superconducting systems, has beenalso
discused.
Keywords: GdBa2Cu3 O(7-x), sintered high-Tc superconductor, broadening of the resistive transition, R-T diagram, energy of dissipation, percolation, Josephson tunnelling, weak link network, critical current, I-V characteristics.

Summary: It was discovered by X-ray diffraction that in the course
of highenergy ball milling of pure powders of gamma-Al2 O3 andgamma-AlOOH
the structural changes occured so that the end phasein the both cases were
alpha-Al2 O3 i.e. corundum. Moreover, thesequence of structural changes
observed during milling wasequivalent to that which was observed in the
course ofprogressive annealing of the both starting materials.
Keywords: gamma-Al2 O3, gamma-AlOOH (boehmite), alpha-Al2 O3 (corundum),transition phases, sequence of phase changes, high-energy ball milling, progressive annealing, X-ray diffraction.

Summary: It was discovered via X-ray diffraction that the
structuraltransformation of gamma-AlOOH (boehmite) and Al(OH)3 (gibbsite)
into Al2 O3 (corundum) was occuring at the room temperature inthe course of
high-energy ball-mill processing of pure powders. Thus, this new route
probably offers the cheapest way of massive
production of corundum.
Keywords: gamma-AlOOH (boehmite), Al(OH)3 (gibbsite), alpha-Al2 O3 (corundum), effect of high-energy ball milling, X-ray diffraction.

Summary: Change of particulate and morphological properties of the
samples obtained during the high-energy ball milling of zeolites of the
samples obtained during the high-energy ball milling of zeolites A and X
were studied by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction and
determination of particle size distribution. It was found that decrease of
crystallinity is followed by considerable change of particulate properties
during the milling, but that the change of particulate properties and
amorphization are two independent processes. Type of amorphization induced
by ball milling was defined on the basis of the analysis of the change of
effective crystallite size during the milling.

Summary: The samples obtained during ball milling of zeolite ZSM 5
were characterized by different methods susc as X-ray diffractometry,
scanning electron microscopy, FT i.r. spectrometry and simultaneous
thermal/gravimetric analysis. The milling causes considerable change of
morphological and particulate properties followed by loss of crystallinity
of the treated zeolite. The loss of crystallinity is caused by breaking of
external T-O-T bonds of zeolite framework. Very slow rate of amorphization
of "as synthesized" zeolite as compared with the rate of amorphization of
its "activated" form is explained by the stabilizing effect of TPA ions
present in the structure of the "as synthesized" zeolite.
Keywords: ZSM 5 zeolite, mechanochemistry, high-energy ball milling, loss of crystallinity (amorphization), breaking of bonds, zeolite framework, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, Fourrier transform i.r. (FTIR) spectroscopy.

Summary: Based on previous mechanochemical studies of zeolites it
was assumed that diffrent cations may influence their mechanical stability.
To prove this assumption, the influence of the partial exchange of sodium
ions from zeolite A by other cations (Li+,Na+,Cs+, and NH4+) on the
kinetics of amorphization was investigated. X-ray diffractometry and FTi.r.
analysis were used to characterize the effect of the exchange on the rate
of amorphization of zeolite A during its ball milling. Analysis of the
experimental results has shown that a partial exchange of sodium with
Li+,K+,Cs+, and NH4+ does not affect the basic mechanism of the
amorphization process, but only the rate of amorphization, R. The decrease
of R in the sequence R(Na+)>R(Li+,Na+)>R(Na+,K+)>R(Na+,Cs+)>R(Na+,NH4+) was
explained by the increase of the volume , Voc, occupied in a unit cell of
zeolite A by the cations ((Na+)+(R+)) in the sequence
Voc(Na+)
Keywords: zeolite A, cation exchange, rate of amorphization, ball milling, X-ray diffractometry, FTi.r. analysis.
