Summary: Investigation of equilibria in systems of solid phases, relaxation processes and phase transitions in solids. Preparation, crystal structure, microstructure, stability conditions, physical and chemical properties, phase diagrams of novel intermetallics, metallic hydrides, mixed metal oxides, supraconductors, and generally multicomponent inorganic solids. Precipitation phenomena in supersaturated intermetallic solid solutions, solubility limits, equilibrium phase diagrams. Structure and properties of novel metallic and ceramic glasses, crystallization processes, kinetics of crystallite growth. Oxidation/corrosion of metals and metallic alloys. Influence of additives on properties of cements. Relaxation processes, interphase reactions and phase transitions in polymer dielectrics.

Research goals: Stability of phases and phase equilibria in multicomponent metallic systems, the influence of the component replacement on properties, chemical affinity to hydrogen. Precipitation processes in supersaturated solid solutions of transition metals in aluminium, the solubility limits, phase transitions ending up in the equilibrium state. Structural and thermal stability of metallic glasses, properties, crystallization. High-temperature oxidation of metals and metallic alloys, kinetics and mechanism of reactions, initial formation of oxide films. Multicomponent systems of metallic oxides, the influence of structure and properties of particular oxides on the phase diagram. Structure, properties, phase transitions of novel supraconductors. The influence of structural instabilities on properties of organic conductors. Structural properties of novel glass-ceramic material. Choice of additives which favourably influence the strength development in inorganic cements, optimum conditions for chemical stability and resistivity to temperature change. Relaxation phenomena in polymer dielecrics by use of depolarization thermal analysis, identification and compensation of parasitic current, interpretation of corresponding spectra and analysis of glass-transition. Phase equilibria, stability conditions, thermal properties of novel complex compounds of transition metals.
