Summary: The project is axed on nuclear physics with heavy ions,
i.e. phenomena connected with nucleus-nucleus collisions at energies of
the order of 10 MeV to 1 GeV per nucleon. The following features are given
particular attention: a) fragmentation, statistical (production of
entropy) and collective behaviour (various types of flow) in
nucleus-nucleus collisions at energies of up to 1 GeV per nucleon; b)
clustering in atomic nuclei, quasi molecular configurations, resonant
behaviour of heavy-ion collisions; c) transport equations applied to
nuclear matter and collisions of nuclei; d) equilibrium and
preequilibrium processes following nucleus-nucleus collisions.

Research goals: The aim of the project is to study the properties of
nuclearmatter at high pressure and temperature as well as the structure
of the atomic nucleus in its extreme shapes, using, as a tool, the
collisions of heavy-ions in the energy range of 10 - 1000 MeV/nucleon. The
results that cumulated in the past 5 years,published in about 35 articles
in leading international journals (Physical Review Letters, Physical
Review, Physical Letters) ,comprise: - the determination by measurement of
the active particle-emission volume in a nucleus-nucleus collision; - an
independent measuremant of the entropy for Au+Au collisions at several
hundred MeV/nucleon; - the calculation of the initial number of degrees of
freedom that share the energy in a nucleus-nucleus collision; - the
explanation of alpha-particle scattering on light nuclei in the frame of
the quasimolecular picture of resonances; - the role of the intermediate
mass fragments in central collisions of gold nuclei at 150 MeV/nucleon; -
the importance of particle exchanges for the appearance of resonances in
the reactions with carbon-14.
