Summary: The removal of humic substances from aqueous solution at
pH=4.8and 6.0 and 25 0C by pure culture of Aspergillus niger has
beenexamined. The removal of humic substances from aqueous phase
wasmonitored by following the decrease in absorbance at 370 nm. CODand
fungal growth were also measured. The initial concentrationof humic and
fulvic acids, pH and diameter of fungal pellets werefound to be the most
important parameters. The results suggestedthat decolorization of batch
culture was a consequence of severalprocesses. In the first 5 hours for
pellets with diameter 1-3 mmand 10 hours for pellets with diameter 2-5 mm
adsorption of humicsubstances was dominant. Aferwards, desorption of
slightly boundhumic substances and their degradation, as well as
degradation ofremaining humic substances in the solution,
continuedsimultaneously through the period of 10 days.

Summary: Azo dyes belong to the largest group of marketed
colourants. Removal of dyea from effluents is the major environmental
problem because certain aromatic compounds carrying HSO3- groups resist
biodegradation or are incompletely degraded.
In the present study microbial removal of azo dye Reactive Red 120 from
aquaous solution was investigated. Mixed bacterial culture previously
aerobically grown in the presence of thid dye was used in static culture
experiments. It was found that some ecological factors affected dye
decolorisation. The fastest dye remoal was obtained at 28 0C, pH=6,8 with
0,20 volume fraction of culture inoculum and by addition 0,1 volume
fraction of nutrient broth.

Summary: Complete decolorization of the dark brown wastewater of the
yeast-production industry is faced with problems. Biological treatments,
aerobic or anaerobic , can never ensure colorless effluent; thus, some
additional decolorization process is usually needed. The application of
ozone, as a final decolorization step, seems to be promissing.
