Summary: During three years of research about 40 various items were
investigated. The knowledge of these scientific items is necessary to
implement the integrated plant management. The stress was put on research
of the nuisible and beneficial fauna and flora, and the influence of
various measures on these organisms, on the possibilities of biological,
mechanical and physical control of pests, on the establishing and solving
the problems of resistance of the Colorado Potato Beetle, Botrytis and
Chenopodium album, on improving the methods of testing seeds and seedling
materials, on the rationalisation and optimalisation of pesticide
applications etc. During the period 1991. - 1995.y. published were 111
scientific or professional article in journals, 16 in Proceedings, 11
summaries in proceedings, 3 books, 1 participation in a book, 3 masters
thesis of project collaborators, 13 times mentors of masters thesis, 2
tehnical reports, 1 script and 2 unpublished presentations, all connected
with this project.
Keywords: integrated pest management, ecology, biological control
Research goals: The Integrated Pest Management (IPM) is a system
which includes all, especially nonpesticidal, methods of protecting
plants from economical damages caused by pests. This system must minimize
environmental pollution and the use of energy, and maximize the safety of
human beings and of natural enemies of pests. The implementation of an IPM
should enable a sustainable, ecologically suitable and profitable
agricultural production on farms in Croatia. The implementations of an IPM
depends on a large knowledge of many basic data on the ecology of plant
pests, their natural enemies, the relations plant - pest, side effects of
pesticides etc. Results of such investigations obtained in other countries
are only partly useful in conditions of Croatia. Therefore in this project
research of the nuisible and beneficial fauna will be effectuated and its
dependence to various measures established. The possibilities of
biological, mechanical and physical control of some pests will be tested
and the appearance, spread and control of resistant populations of the
Colorado Potato Beetle, the fungus Botrytis and the weed Chenopodium album
established. The rationalisation and optimalisation of the use of
pesticides will be studied and ecologiccally and economically more
suitable pesticides tested.
