Summary: UV-fluorescence spectrophotometry was used to
investigatedissolved flurescent matter in coastal seawater samples
fromSplit. Concentracions of dissolved flurescent matter wereestimated
using calibration curves constructed from knownconcentracions of Suwannee
River fulvic acid and quinine insulphuric acid. The results obtained during
one year surveyshowed a low variability except in a period of
phytoplanktonblooms.

Summary: The presence and survival od S.aureus as well as its
correlation with faecal pollution indicators was studied in the coastal
area of the town Split during summer period. Staphylococcus aureus was
permanently or occasionally present at all sites tudied. Survival of
S.aureus was statistically significantly longer than that of faecal
pollution indicators under both light and dark conditions. Strong
correlation between S.aureus and indicators was established in highly
polluted areas. Solar radiation and temperature were the most important
factors controlling the survival of S.aureus in seawater.

Title: Uloga predacije u kontroli broja bakterija i heterotrofnih

Summary: The role of bacteria and heterotrophic nanoflagellates
(HNF) in the microbial food web was studied over 1992/93 in Ka štela Bay
(Adriatic Sea). The average production of bacteria (12.3 ug C/day) and HNF
(4.8 ug C/day) suggests that these organisms fix a significant amount of
organic carbon. Small HNF (<8 ug) were the most important bacterial
grazers, accounting, on overage, 80 % of the total grazing on bacteria,
whereas abundance and production of HNF were cntroled bz ciliate grazing.
Bacterivorous protozoa stimulated bacterial growth and contributed to an
enhanced turnover of bacterial biomass. Grazing rates obtained by RLB
(radioactive labelled bacteria) method were regularly higher than the
values obtained by the size fractionation method.

Summary: Strong trophic coupling of bacteria with HNF, and HNF with
ciliates was established. Entire annual bacterial (4.47 gC m-3 year-1) and
HNF (1.75 gC m-3 year-1) production was consumed by their predators. About
32% (1.43 gC m-3 year-1) of bacterial production was incorporated in HNF
biomass. Ciliates incorporated about 8% (0.36 gC m-3 year-1) of bacterial
production by direct grazing and about 13% (0.58 gC m-3 year-1) indirectly
through HNF. This means that of the total annual bacterial production about
21% (0.94 gC m-3 year-1) available to metazoan food web.

Summary: Bacterioplankton:phytoplankton production rate was studied
on monthly basis from January 1980 to September 1982 in the area of the
coastal and open middle Adriatic. Our results suggest that produced
bacterial biomass could be a significant source of carbon for a higher
trophic levels in the Adriatic, particularly in the oligotrophyc open area.

Title: Rod Galodea LINK. 1807 (Gastropoda, Prosobranchia -
Cassidae) u Jadranskom moru.

Summary: Complex bionomic and biocoenologic investigations were
carried out to study the taxonomy, ecology and zoogeography of the genus
Galeodea LINK, 1807 nad to gather information on this genus in the Adriatic
Sea. Galeodea echinophora var. obsoleta (BUCQZOV, DAUTZENBERG and DOLLFUS,
1882) and Galeodea echinophora var. mutica (TIBERI, 1863) are the forms
occuring in the Adriatic Sea. The material collected (675 specimens) showed
that all the specimens identified by earlier authors as Galodea tyrrhena
CHEMNITZ belonged to the species Galodea echinophora. Therephore, it
appears that the species Galeodea tyrrhena should be omitted from the
check-list of Adriatic gastropod fauna.

Title: Razvoj nelinearnog višerazinskog modela i njegova primjena

Summary: The present paper describes a non-linear levels numerical
model. The model is written in the semi-staggerd grid with the
forward-backwards numerical scheme. It is applied to reproduce the
bor-driven circulation on the Adriatic shelf in order to relate to previous
numerical studies where processes of advection of momentum and local
generation of turbulence were not considered. Starting from a hydrodtatic
state the wind-stress produces a marked seiche and inertial oscillation in
the numerical solutions. These oscillations are discussed with regard to
the theory of the Adriatic seiche.
